Sales tax by county - how to override if our locality's sales tax differs from the default state percentage

Hello,

Being in Virginia, I collect sales tax on my sales for orders shipped to Virginia. I found the setup in Fotomoto's site to set this up for Fotomoto to collect the tax only on Virginia orders. That's great. Thanks.

The only problem I foresee is the fact the sales tax amount varies depending on where in Virginia you sell from. The "Sales Tax" setup in Account Information doesn't seem to:

A - verify what sales tax percentage you are collecting (5.3% most places, but not all)

B - provide a way to override your state sales tax assumption with a different value to accommodate the parts of the state with a slightly high sales tax percentage.

We need a way to verify and, if need be, override the sales tax percentage for our home office location. In my particular circumstance I charge sales tax only on orders shipped to Virginia using the sales tax value for my county. It's a set it and forget it value for me, but I do need to be able to know the percentage you are going to charge my customers. I have to forward the sales tax to my state whether or not Fotomoto collects it correctly... I just assume have you collect it correctly.

Thanks.

    Hi John,

Thanks for your post. As you've seen we allow three options for how to collect the taxes:

    1. Handle tax yourself
    2. Charge tax for all states
    3. Only charge tax for your state

The fastest way to get the best solution for you would be to do a test purchase (without checking out), enter a city and zip code and check in the shopping cart what is charged for tax. If what our system charges works for you then you're all set. If not, you have the option of selecting "Handle tax yourself".

As always, you the seller can set the sales price as needed to meet your desired profit.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek
