I’m mildly irked

I'm getting a proxy server error message, but I'm not using a proxy.

I'm getting the proxy server error message, but I am not using a proxy server. Is there another known issue preventing me from syncing?

What's the specific error you're seeing? What does your foxmarks.log show?

  • Hi,

    The error message says:

"Foxmarks can't login properly. Perhaps you're using a proxy server?"

When I check my server settings though, I find that I am not using a proxy.

    Here's what the log says:

I'm having the same error. It's getting really annoying. Mine hasn't sync'ed since around December 23rd. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, verified I'm not using a proxy (though I've never used a proxy), and signed into the site to ensure that I'm remembering my password and user name correctly.

    Windows XP SP3, Firefox 3.0.5

  • Dan Sarka, sorry I hadn't responded, I never got an email telling me you'd written back. Not sure why. :/

If you set Encryption to "Encrypt All", does that fix things for you?

Tools > Foxmarks > Settings, "Advanced": "Encryption"

It does, indeed, Eric. Thank you much.

Is there a reason why "Login Only" doesn't work? Should it?
    • Thanks for the confirmation, Chris D. Though you don't have your computer specifically configured to use a proxy server, I strongly suspect whatever internet provider you're using is sending you through a proxy on your way to the Foxmarks server, or there's something similar in the way your network connection is working.

Using "Encrypt All" can mask many such problems, thus why it's working in this case, I think.

What is odd about this error is that nothing in my office network has changed in the last several months, so it's not in my local network or servers. (I'm the admin of our network, here.)

For our Internet connection, we connect using a T1 line through AT&T. So who knows what they're doing that caused Foxmarks to stop working, but I"m glad it's working now.

    Thank you again!

  • I'm having the same sync issue, but when I try to get to the Foxmarks settings to "Encrypt All" nothing happens. Why can't I get the settings to come up? I haven't been able to sync since October and this is driving me nuts.

  • I wasn't getting an error message, a dialog box or anything--nothing happened at all. But it must have been a temporary glitch because when I went back to it later, it worked, and that did solve the sync issue. Thanks for your help!

  • i'm using xmarks on Win7 X64 behind a proxy but the "encrypt all" trick does not help. i'm getting "syncronization cancelled".
