Hi,

I've a problem with embed video Url.

When I paste an Url in the field "Embed Url" of a post :

- With Vimeo url, the video appears correctly with the goog sizing in all browsers except Internet explorer (all versions).

- With youtube url, the video appears correctly in all browsers, but the size is very small, not 800*300 px.

Thanks for helping me

I believe some changes were made to oEmbed of WP’s handling of oEmbed. I’ll most likely provide the fix for this in the next update. Hoping to have it out really soon.

Is it possible to say what part of the template had changed, since i've made some customisation, i don't want to overwrite the whole template.

Thanks!

Nevermind.. I fixed it with css..

My video's oEmbed didn't show in IE7, IE8 en IE9 (standard mode). To fix this i've commented out 1 line of CSS:

Line 614 in style.css:
#content .entry-video-container iframe {padding: 0;margin: 0;display: table; }

All works like a charm now.. :-)

Hi - thanks for the help. There really isnt anything to show. The videos from vimeo just dont appear so I have to embed them into the actual blog.

You can see an example here. The video is in the blog content area. Nothing appears at the top.

Thanks for taking a look.

Sorry - one more thing. If I paste the Vimeo url in the embed url field it will actually make the featured image disappear - but still no video. At least it kinda solves one problem...

The div entry-video-container is not filled with anything, are you sure you've entered the Vimeo URL in the field when posting the blogpost?

I'm not sure how comfortable you're with editing code, but if you'd like me to help you fix the code, you can contact me through my website (i'll e-mail you back then)

Sorry for the delayed responses here everyone.

I’m unable to replicate this issue at all.

erineileen9,
I checked your post and something weird is definitely going on. The Video container is showing up, but no video. That means that the script is running, but oEmbed isn’t returning the embed code for some reason.

I just checked this out on my own site using your video link and it worked correctly for me (albeit the smaller video size). Check it out: http://cl.ly/0q0C44022v3k3k2r270t

Hmm, that is so weird. When I realized it wasnt working (a few weeks ago) I did a total reinstall of AutoFocus 2.0.6. So it cant be anything that I changed.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I'm looking into the code on Erin's behalf and i'm seeing a bit of strange code in the functions.php which shouldn't be there, i've removed that bit, but their still something wrong..

The wordpress version is 3.4.1 (with the new vimeo oembed code in wp-includes/class-oembed.php on line 35, changing http into https for vimeo -> see: ) and the template version of autofocusPro is 2.0.6

I've diagnosed the problem being this:

1. If i include a Youtube video, the div entry-video-container gets filled with the iframe. Every other option posibble to include works like a charm.. It's Vimeo specific.
2. If i include a Vimeo video the div stays empty. It seems there's something wrong with including the Vimeo files. (duh! lol ) For some reason pasting the link in the customfield doesn't trigger the iframe code from being generated.

I'm running my own website on WP 3.4.1 as well but with AutofocusPro 2.0.2 and i'm not having any problems... There are two posibilities as far as i'm concerned:

1. There's something wrong in the template specific for Vimeo (but i can't seem to find a different piece of code between the 2.0.2 en 2.0.6 version concerning Vimeo.

2. The hosting of Erin is blocking the Vimeo includes for some reason. Because the website seems to run on Rackspace (shared hosting), maybe this thread over at Vimeo is in order: https://vimeo.com/forums/topic:42869

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

I use Laughing Squid for hosting and I contacted them a few weeks ago to ask them about your #2. This is their response: "We do not block the posting of multimedia files on your account, especially if you are linking to Vimeo videos that should not cause any sort of problem. If you are having issues with the theme you will want to contact the developer to see if they have any other troubleshooting ideas."

Maybe it is the difference between .2 and .6?

According to my traceroute to ERINEILEENMURPHY.COM which stops at IP 98.129.229.188 which belongs to: Rackspace Hosting, San Antonio, Texas.

On Windows go to your command-line (Windows -> Run -> type "cmd" (no quotes) and hit enter. Type in "tracert www.erineileenmurphy.com" (no quotes) and hit enter.. Wait for it to complete the trace.. It is definitely on Rackspace. The route stops on 98.129.229.188.

According to the thread on Vimeo.com which states people who've websites with IP's in the 98.129.229.* range have issues with Vimeo oEmbed.

So i won't just rule out option 2 to be honest. Maybe LaughingSquid is reselling through Rackspace or something?

There's no harm in trying 2.0.2 instead of 2.0.6 just to be sure, but i'd put my money on Rackspace, especially because all other oEmbeds work perfectly in the theme and i don't see anything strange in the theme-code.

I'd contact my hostingcompany and ask how their reselling is set up and specifically refer to my findings and the Vimeo thread. If they're reselling Rackspace webspace then they've to take it up with their supplier.

I notice you've a lot of video's on Vimeo, so moving over to Youtube won't be an option i suppose.

Again, i'm glad to try the 2.0.2 version on your website, however i don't think it makes a difference.

Thanks a ton snapcat!
I had a feeling it was an oEmebd issue. Didn’t know it was tied to the IP address. Please let me know what you find out and I’ll also try to look into it myself ;-)

The problem is them using a service from Rackspace which has issues.. However, i've build a workaround 'solution' whom i'm writing a blogpost about as we speak.. Will post this shortly..

@ Allan, feel free to use it in 2.0.7 as an addition.. ;-)

Sorry for the delayed response, but thanks alot for the help snap cat!
I looked into the solution you provided and I’ll consider it for a future release.

However, after looking into this it seems the issue has more to do with Vimeo and how it’s been dealing with oEmbed links. There’s a solution for it here that i’m considering: http://goo.gl/634u8 — assuming this actually is the same problem.

There’s also this issue too which is a concern for oEmbed as well: https://vimeo.com/forums/topic:44105
