Planning Website Improvement - Track an Application

Would it be possible have the facility to have a list of selected planning applications (your "Favourites") and receive an email or other notification if there is a change to the application (new documents submitted, decisions made or the like)

Thanks for you comments Tony,

We would need to make an investment to develop the existing system so it sends out alerts when the application is amended or the status changes. Unfortunately we have no plans to make this investment in the near future.

I am not sure if the link below helps, but it will email you every time an application is submitted within a user defined radius of your postcode, I am just unsure whether it alerts you when a decision has been made.

If we get an opportunity in the future to invest in our planning system we will make sure this is considered.

Disappointing - it doesn't find multiple applications on my doorstep which are the one's I wish to follow !!!

I have set up a trace using http://www.changedetection.com, but it seems that your website does not like the robots.txt that this site uses and the data appears to have minor changes every day - so I get a message each day saying the site has changed

Hi Tony, we can update our robots.txt file on the www2 domain so it allows the user gent ChangeDetection (but I don’t think this will have the desired impact as we do allow all user agents on the domain by default).

You will probably find the site gets updated daily and the url of the page may sometimes change as its a random hash of numbers

Every night we suck in all the newly scanned documents and post them to the planning applications web server, this may also look like a change to the entire site.

I’m sorry we can’t implement the improvements you suggested but we currently don’t have (and probably wont have this year) any budget for this type of work.

wouldn't it be a better idea to enable an rss feed from the content management system you use?
That way people can subscribe to those items they wish to consume

Thanks for your comment Dave.

The planning site sits outside our content management system We can't generate a rss that way as we do with our news , events and petitions.

But its not all bad news an external site provides a rss feed of applications.

I just can't guarantee how often its updated ad its outside of our control.

http://www.planningalerts.com/api.php...

Hope that helps

Please let me have some feedback on the link as I may add it to our main site.

the external site is consuming data from the fylde website - e.g. http://www2.fylde.gov.uk/planning/aco...

afull list of planningapplications - http://www2.fylde.gov.uk/planning/aco...

it wouldn't be difficult to create an rss feed of this data using an xsl parser....

give me a shout if you need any help

Thanks Dave,

We have tried this before but we struggled with it due to the pages not being valid XHML and the search pages URL is dynamic that changes every time the date passes (the system is provided by a external provider so we cant change the outputs).

But (it’s a postive but!), we have set up a scrape that is available when you log into the site, what I am going to try and do over the weekend is move the scrape into a public directory and convert this into a rss feed that can be used publicly.

If I cant get the above working, I will come back to your for some help.

Thanks for the feedback, is discussions like this that help us improve the site and make public data easier for the public to access!

welcome Andy

looking at the source of the page the tag div id="ACOLNET-PLANTECH"
appears to be xml....

it would simply mean developing a simple page (asp) which then parses the xml....ensuring a refresh on each page load event

happy to help

Just a quick update on this post, we are going to start rolling out some updates over the next few months that will allow you to search by postcode, track applications and select a number of application to be notified when the applications progress (i.e. decision gets made).

The user interface will also be improved based on the feedback we have received over the past year or so.

We have rolled out an update to the view planning application website that will allow you to track applications.

http://www.fylde.gov.uk/view-planning...

The view plans on-line site is currently: open beta. All main functions of the site are working, however we would appreciate any feedback or comments.

Thanks

Hi

I have logged in to the new planning website and I find the tracking feature a great addition and very useful. I do have a problem in that I don't seem to be able to read any comments added to an application. When I click on Consultees comments it brings up a list but clicking on expand all does not seem to do anything. Am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback, we will report this as a bug.

You should be able to view details of consultee comments (town council , lancashire county council ...) but not public comments.

Thanks for flagging it up

Hi Andy

It seems that the 'Expand All' function for 'Consultee Comments' on the new planning site still does not seem to be working. Any update on this ?

Cheers

Hi AJW,

We are currently running through a testing plan, we hope to have this completed within the next 1 - 2 weeks.

The developers will then fix the bug and I will update the forum.

Apologies I can't be specific about times as I am unsure how long the developers will take to fix the issues arising from the training plan.
