Residents Parking Open Golf

I just wondered wether the residents of St Annes would have to remove their vehicles from outside their homes this time we have the golf, as last time wasnt a problem because we only had a small car which fit in the drive but now with a larger family we have a bigger car which does not fit in the drive. So i would like to know in advance where i am going to put it, if this is the case??

  • Dear Tracie,

Any road closures and restrictions will be planned and determined by the Lancashire County Council and Police through a Traffic Management Plan.

As soon as the details of the road restrictions are available they will be published and any residents directly affected will be informed by letter.

I am sure you will appreciate that there will be a large number of people visiting the the area for the Golf and there will be some traffic congestion.

    Thanks

  • I have just had a look at the new website - this Mario site. From what I can see it would appear that the green at the end of Riley Avenue is going to be a car park. I do hope that this has been given proper consideration? If you walk on there at the moment it is very wet.

Who will be picking up the tab for putting the green back to normal after the cars churn the grass into mud?

I might be a little cynical but it seems to me that all the money made from the tourists will go into the hands of private businesses whilst the local authority, and us as council tax payers will end up paying to put it all back to normal after the tourists have gone.

If I were a resident who parks on the streets affected by the parking restrictions I would be more than a little concerned too. The late release of the information means that some people are not going to have time to sort out other arrangements.

  • Dear Caddi,

I would like to reassure you that the transport group have carefully considered the use of the Green for parking and one of the many factors taken into consideration is the excellent drainage on sand that the Green offers which is significantly different to what has been seen on the mud based fields of Silverstone this weekend. I do know that this has caused some concern.

Any reinstatement (if required) is fully funded by the event organisers regardless of uses the Green i.e. the fairground did the same the other week. The site is inspected by a surveyor befire it is used and afterwards to ensure that it is both cosmetically and structurally sound. The Green is one of the areas best assets and activity would not be permitted that could cause long term damage.

On the surface it can be diffcult to see where the local community benefit lies because it all looks like the Opne Championship has takebn over. However, there is a lot of money that is spent and does stay in the local community, some examples include:

    1. Most of the staff employed in restaurants, hotels and cafes in the region that will all do very well over the next few weeks and the legacy to follow with the prestige of visiting the Open venue are local residents.

    2. One local community facility has made enough from the Open Golf to fund projects for the next 10 years that local families will benefit from.

    3. Many local residents have made several thousands renting out their homes (£25,000 being the highest 'reported') a majority of which they will spend in the their local community.

    4. A lot of extra money is generated for the Council from our own car parking and the additional licensing required as a direct result of the Open.

We do appreciate and are sympathetic to the inconvenience that can be caused for a few days whilst the Championship is held and every action is taken to mitigate this.

The webiste www.fylde.gov.uk has all the FAQ's about the Open Golf and the contact tabs at the top of every page allow you to provide direct feedback and or questions to Council employees.

Thank you very much for your feedback it is always valued and will be passed to the transportation group.

  • There seems to be a number of large commercial vehicles (coaches and car transporters) already parked in residential parking areas.
Lets hope these are removed before the tourists arrive

  • Dear Dave

I will make sure that the enforcement team are aware of these issues and start to address the vehicles and adverts. This is something that we expected to happen as part of the Open Golf.

Thanks for the heads up on this one.

  • Dear Dave

The banners are representative of tourism features across Lancashire because they have been funded through a Lancashire Patnership initiative at considerable cost, not the Fylde tax payer.

The Open will actually have a £100 million benefit to the wider regional economy.

    Thanks for the enquiry
