Data discrepancy gapminder/FAO

Gapminder Agriculture - which is supposed to be based on FAO data - says that there were 372'600 goats in The Netherlands in 2007. FAOStat says, there were 355'000. Why are the data discrepant?

  • Dear usperling,
The data we use in Gapminder Agriculture was actually downloaded from FAO more than 1 year ago, and FAO has probably corrected/modified a number of data points during the last 12 months, which would explain the discrepancy.

We routinely upgrade our databases, but there might be a delay in converting the latest data from various organisations into our animated graphs on-line.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.
