This would not only be nice, but then anyone could help translate and make the software better, for free. And good stats in many languages for free is just the thing gapminder should be.
Why not have an api so that anyone can make webapps that uses gapminder, but has a better interface or is customized the way it's needed?

If the bubble-graph sld have been to open source the application. Since the aquisition, many interource code ("Trendalyzer") hadn't been aquired by Google in 2007, maybe another option wouesting trends have been spotted in the open data/data visualization landscape:
Many large organizations/institutions have made their data publicly available through APIs etc. (Most recently the World Bank)
Many frameworks for visualization (on multiple platforms, in a plethora of languages) are maturing.
