Scaling of Y-Axis for meaningful comparison

Dear all, when I am trying to plot income distribution I can`t scale the y-axis which basically gives flat lines at the bottom for countries with low population, which makes it almost impossible to compare to small countries in a meaningfull way (no stacking applied). Am I overlooking something here? Thx, Julian

  • Hi Julian,

You can find axis scale domain adjustments in the options menu. See the screenshot below.
Furthermore, we often put income on a logarithmic axis, which can also make the differences in low numbers clearer. (You can do this in the indicator picker menu)
Finally, we recommend using per capita rates. They are often more telling when comparing countries (unless you specifically want absolute numbers). Added benefit is that it makes comparing small to large countries easier.

    Best regards,
    Jasper

  • Hi Jasper,
many thanks for the quick reply! Unfortunately to me it appears that this only works with the scatter plots but not with the income distribution? The X and Y menu looks different there and only gives you the option to choose the max Y value "immediate" or "latest". Apparantly there is not even a labelled y-axis in the graph?

The link hopefully shows the settings:

  • Ah, it wasn't clear to me which chart you were on.

Alright, in that case, follow the steps below to enable the "show" dialog where you can filter out all the other countries.
