Will Gen Y be poorer than previous generations?

I've read that my generation (those of us currently in our twenties) will be the first generation in 70 years in the west to have a lower material standard of living than our parents as a result of later entry into the workforce, and lower paying jobs once we enter the workforce. Does the data support this conclusion?
