can not reset password

My usual PC has a problem and I'm using a backup machine.

I can't remember the password for a user forum (I'd gotten used to letting FireFox remember my password on the usual PC) and so I've been trying the 'reset password' process but again-and-again the system gives an error when I then try to log in with the new password.

I click the 'cannot remember password' button ... wait for the e-mail and then go to the 'reset password' page .... that seems to go well but ... when I then try to log in to the forum with my new password ... I get an error.

I've gone through this about a dozen times.

(UPDATE)

I seem to have found the solution.

The 'special character', which I am forced to use by the system, can not be either the first nor the last character in the password.

Sticking the 'special character' somewhere in the middle of the password appears to have solved the problem ... i.e. I can now reset my password and then go to the the forum (that I'm trying to access) and successfully log-in. (I completely shut-down FireFox, ran ccleaner, restarted FireFox and logged into the forum.)
