@getsatisfaction are there any plans for an iPhone version of your site? I have an idea if you are - let's talk.

Currently, there are no plans to do this, but let's start a conversation about it!

I think that a native iPhone app (or at least an iPhone-friendly mobile interface) would be great for those of us with iPhones who like to regularly answer questions on Get Satisfaction, but find it too inefficient to browser and zoom the standard interface on our iPhones.

yes iphone has become essential to me so just a 'iphone friendly' site would be great on its own. an app may not be that necessary.

I wonder why everything has to have an Iphone Interface and not a more generic mobile interface!

Granted, build something for more platforms requires a lot more trouble, but being able to access GetSatisfaction by using BlackBerry or a WM equipped phone will broader a lot it usefulness!

why not do both. many sites do that already with regular mobile and iphone interfaces side by side. note that the iphone mobile format is specifically tailored to the iphone's display so it looks and works great.

iPhone interfaces operate differently than typical mobile interfaces. A typical mobile device only needs to have the data presented in a format that fits its screen, and it can then be navigated either with buttons or a stylus. An iPhone needs to have the data formatted to fit its screen as well, but primarily needs to have it presented in a way that is comfortably large enough to navigate with human fingers without having to zoom in, otherwise an iPhone user might as well use the main site.

Yes, as you pointed out, "the world is bigger than the iPhone", but it's also bigger than a BlackBerry or a WM equipped phone. Having just a mobile interface for typical mobile devices will alienate iPhone users just as much as having just a mobile interface for iPhones will alienate typical mobile devices.

So, in summary, it would be nice to have mobile interfaces for both iPhones and typical mobile devices.

As an iPhone application developer, I'd like to see a framework provided so I could use Get Satisfaction for my product from within the product.

Ya, Paul nailed it. Instead of a goofy contact form for tech support it should be tied in with our get sat account.

Exactly - this is what I'm looking at right now. I'd develop a framework myself, but it appears that you need to sign up for the $300/month plan just to get access to the API? I'd rather not do that before I know it works...

if you're looking to exclusively build the iPhone app, you can get in touch with me at ginevra [at] getsatisfaction.com, and I'll see what we can work out. :)

I would love an iPhone app for Get Satisfaction. Absolutely love it. You might even open up a whole new market for Get Satisfaction: Support communities for iPhone-only apps.

And to Paul's point, I know we could also use a framework to integrate our iPhone app with Get Satisfaction, to drive customers there when they have questions or are experiencing "unintended features" (bugs) in the app.

Me too.
Got the iPhone 4s and went to find the GetSatisfaction app for it - imagine my disappointment! ;-) With the encouragement to respond promptly to posts (especially negative ones) this app is a necessity!

Hey Seth!

Satisfaction Remote was actually an app not built by Get Satisfaction. Someone used our open API to create an app and unfortunately it looks like the person who created it is no longer supporting it. Sorry! :(

Thanks Caty, that's what I had semi-assumed, but I appreciate the clarification. Given that, shouldn't this idea not be marked as "Implemented"?

Yeahhhh... that's a good point. We do have a web-based mobile app available for those on iPhones & iPods, so I'm wondering if that's why this was marked as implemented. I'll update the thread with information about our mobile offering and then will talk with the rest of our team about possibly updating the status. Thanks for pointing that out!

Official Response
Hi everyone! Just wanted to provide an update on this thread. Get Satisfaction offers a web-based mobile app, built with HTML5 for all communities on paid plans. There's nothing for your users to install. If they visit your community from a supported iOS mobile device we will automatically redirect them to the mobile version of your community!

To learn more about Get Satisfaction's mobile offering, check out the blog post written by our product team.

Here's some other threads about mobile that you might be interested in:

- We Need An App Not A Web Based Mobile Version

That said, I'm going to change the status of this Idea to "not planned" because we do not have a plan for a native app as of right now.
