How do I freeze a community?

We want to freeze the community in its current state. By that I mean, keep the forums readable and searchable, but disable creation of new topics and replies. Is it possible to do this ourselves?

Unfortunately we don't have the option to prevent the posting of new topics and replies. Sorry! I can put an overlay over the content that discourages posting, but people are still able to post if they wanted to. You can see an example of what the overlay looks like here: https://getsatisfaction.com/zooworld

Hi Katy,

Thanks for your quick response. We'll go with the overlay then. The community is "Genome Sequencing and Analysis".

Please use the following message:

"Hi GATK users!

We are migrating GATK support to a new forum, with many new features that will help us to help you better. Please post any new questions or bug reports there. Starting today, this forum will no longer be maintained, although you can still view the archived content.

If you have any pending questions, please repost them to the new forum, with our apologies for the inconvenience.

Looking forward to seeing you on http://gatk.vanillaforums.com! "

Let me know if I need to edit the message at all (if there's a length limit).

Thanks!

Sure, no problem! There is a character limit of 255, but I can play around with it if you'd like. Or you can give me something specific to say. When would you like the overlay to go live? Also, we typically put the overlay up once a premium account has been cancelled. Do you want me to cancel the premium account now or just put the overlay up?

Sorry to see you guys go!

If you can find a way to phrase within that limit that would be great! The key points we want to make are:

1) we're moving to a new forum, people should go there to post from now on;
2) old content remains accessible but not supported;
3) pending questions should be reposted in the new forum

Please just put the overlay for now (as soon as possible), we will cancel once we're 100% sure. The reason we're switching is that we wanted full integration with our new website, and complete control over features.

Thanks!

Hi Caty,

I have reworded the text to be under the 255 char limit. Can you please put this in place asap?

Hi Caty,

Thanks for putting up the overlay.

I was looking for how to cancel our account, but couldn't find where to do it in the Admin dashboard, and it doesn't look like we have anything "Premium" there. I guess I'm not sure we actually have a Premium account. Could you please clarify that for me?

Hi there! You guys are definitely on a premium plan, but it looks like you pay annually which is why you're not able to cancel from the back end. I can definitely cancel for you... would you like for me to do that now? If not now, just give me a date for when you'd like to cancel and I'll have our billing department take care of it. Thanks!

Yes, please cancel it now. Can you reimburse the months that we will not use off the yearly plan?

Let me reach out to billing so they can help with canceling the annual account, and I'll have them send you an email with information about the contract details.
