It would be nice to have an easier unfollow procedure.

  • Under Consideration
This was brought up by one of my champions. He has been very active and helpful recently, and I would like to keep him that way. He commented on the number of topics that he follows and has to eventually unfollow. He was asking if there could be a "quick" unfllow from the profile screen. Maybe check the box on several topics and click unfollow once or something like that. Or an unfollow butoon next to each topic in the profile.

If it's helpful in the meantime, the notification emails have a small "Stop receiving notifications about this question" link at the bottom.

Thanks, that is what I told him as well.

I wanted to let you know that we are going to mark this as under consideration. We can see how this would be helpful, but will need to take some time to think about how it could be implemented.

This is a problem for me as well. Is there a way to disable the "auto follow" on GS threads? I can't comment on any thread without getting attached to "follow" it. Even when I manually "unfollow" a thread, if I comment on it again I get resigned up to follow it. This is a major pain since I am on the IMDb Poll Board that posts frequently throughout the day.

GetSat, like many examples of forum software, takes the view that it would be discourteous to make a posting and then ignore any feedback that resulted.

And also that if you contribute to a thread, you would be interested to see where it goes.

Which is why posting then causes you to be included as a Follower of the thread.

Perhaps your user story here is an exception to both precepts, but as such, it would be pretty unusual, I think.

Going back to the postings from the Drews militia, and bearing tangentially on yours as a stopgap in the meantime, Jen, if a users goes to their profile and lists 'Show topics I am following', for one Community or All Communities according to preference, there is an Unfollow button on each one, and you can work down the list, bang bang bang bang and clear the Follow in one touch/click per topic.

Since it's come up again, and is in another thread on the front page right now, I wanted to post the quick link to get to your own profile page where you can unsubscribe.
