This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies and is no longer visible to community members. The community moderator provided the following reason for archiving: Topics are out of date

We have a very long topic, that has lots of valuable information from users gathered over the last years.
http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...

The topic now is being cut back to the last 15 replies.

"Due to volume, only the 15 most recent replies are being displayed"

Although that might be a great feature, there should be an option to show all replies.

The least we NEED is to get all info from this topic in some form so we can scrape the info and make a new denser topic with all the gathered info.

Hi Bart,
I do apologize for the annoyance. We have temporarily put this truncation mode on to maintain performance as we prepare a longer term solution. We will be adding a See All option very shortly.

In the meantime, you can view all of the replies to this topic via the API. Here's a sample call:

feed://api.getsatisfaction.com/topics/204937?page=3

This shows 30 responses per page, and you can set the page number there in the query string. A bit wonky, but it works.

Thanks for understanding!

I'm a game player of Beeline. They are running a contest. But we can't see all the entries and questions/comments. As a paying customer of theirs I'm frustrated though I know it's not their fault. However, I'm angry at your company for not fixing this yet! You have known for over 2 years about this problem and haven't done anything! There are plenty of forums that have threads that are many pages with 10-20 post per page (DIS Boards, SPP Forum, etc.). This isn't rocket science and should not take 2+ years to fix!!!

It's still a problem 2 years later! What does escalate mean in your company?

I'm disgusted that Beeline is probably stuck in a contract with your company wasting valuable resources they could be devoting to their games and customers!

Might I ask how shortly 'very shortly' is? (If I were you, I'd answer 'very', but I'm asking more in terms of how many days/weeks)

come on guys, sort it out!!!

You are penalizing popular threads with this move, its not a "feature" its a "bug"!!

Just put a link "load more" somewhere, you've got the calls in your API already so the logic is there, how hard can it be.

The thread Im talking about had some great comments and now this silly limit kicked in, fix it please!!

thanks.

Fair enough. I agree this is frustrating. I'll escalate this in priority, and will try and provide an update shortly.

FYI, we're working on a big ops/performance initiative right now which has tied us up somewhat. It's the kind of work that no one notices when we invest the time, but they would most certainly notice it if we didn't!

That was TWO YEARS ago!

getsatisfaction has hereby proven to be a bad place to host customer feedback. I only hope that Mozilla and Songbird will turn their backs on this farce of a "service" ASAP. The name should be getNOsatisfaction.

I've never, ever, ever heard of a technical support forum truncating topic threads / replies in order to optimize performance. I mean, you're using Amazon's S3 which is described as "Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web."

Uh, so, what are you guys doing wrong? Doesn't getsatisfaction.com pay Amazon so that you guys don't have to figure out how to optimize (if there is any) your site? (and yes, I understand you have thousands and thousands of companies using getsatisfaction.com... but still)

Jason,
This temporary change has absolutely nothing to do with Amazon S3 and everything to do with high traffic topics where our caching mechanism isn't adequate. In these cases it is our database that gets hit very, very hard, not storage. These problematic topics are rare, so we implemented a fix that would maintain high performance for everyone while we make some updates that support the edge case. We are loosening this up, though, so normal communities are not affected by it.

lol and you bought that excuse.. it is now the 19th of february 2012 and they still have a truncation in place....if i was a company looking for someone to look after my customers, then i can certainly tell you that Get Satisfaction will definately be off that list.. seriously, over 2 years later and you still have that problem???

yearight, if you look carefully you'll notice that jasonwolf posted that comment two weeks after this topic was opened, so it certainly appeared a reasonable response and expectation at that time. Now we know better, of course... ;-)

I did report this issue 12 day ago. We are missing the thread that gets frequented most and has the most valuable info of all our company threads. That is why it is long! Please fix it!

Good news: We have an update scheduled for deploy tomorrow night that will avoid truncation for all but the very longest threads. Once we finish our feature update, even the longest threads (those with 1000+ replies) will be back to normal.

Thanks for your patience.

Great news indeed! I know of a few companies that have long threads that contain information that would save from multiple postings... if people could read them. This is good news.

So what's up with this? It's 2/3 months later now...

Here's an example: http://gsfn.us/t/q7pn
Due to volume, only the 15 most recent replies are being displayed

276 replies made, but because of the above quote from the system only 15 are visible and there's no button to show them all. Now how am I supposed to read the feedback from the other 260 replies easily?

and 276 <<< 1000+

Here's another one which still has this problem (324 replies):

http://gsfn.us/t/d1w7

And with that one, although there have been official replies, none of them are within the last 15 replies (or have not been flagged as solving the problem) so there is no way to see them.

It's the same problem in the thread about Voddler's GPL infringement. This makes it really hard for journalists and interested people to find out what's going on. http://www.getsatisfaction.com/voddle...

Five months since this thread began and we're still limited to the last 15 replies on long threads? If our own histories can be paginated on our Dashboard pages, why can't long threads be paginated as well?

I'm sorry for this - you're correct, this is still a problem on our side. It's got a long story behind it, but essentially it's a caching issue. Hitting a single page with that many topics and images was having a big impact on our overall performance. The bad news is, that means it'll take a while to be fully back, but the good news is that we can tackle it in pieces. I'll keep updating this topic as we make progress.

we've bumped it up to 30 topics, and we're seeing how things go so with that increase. There's a lot of moving pieces for performance right now, so rocking the boat on this one will still take a bit.

We're running into this problem too, but it seems to be going on a while and with the companies most successfully using your product. I understand that this can be a performance issue though it seems you could call your own API to solve it in these edge cases. Paging maybe?
