When users use the feedback widget, they see a list of posts that might contain their answer. If none of them fit the user's question, they continue to post the question. However, users need a way to edit the question again before posting since most users simply type short questions/titles to search Get Satisfaction, and then don't embellish before posting. This leads to our site being full of postings that are essentially search terms.

It would be great if the widget first prompted them to search, then prompted them to edit/flesh out their question if their search didn't produce appropriate results.

Official Response
I just wanted to give you the heads up that your idea was implemented in our release of new widgets, officially called: Get Satisfaction Engage.

Engage Widgets perform a topic intercept search after the the user enters in the title of their topic. The user is then presented with a list of topic matches, or given the option to continue posting. With the continue posting option open, a page is presented where the user can edit their original title, add details & tags, and then preview the entire topic prior to posting in the community.

We have the Engage Feedback Tab widget hosted on our main homepage (click the purple "community" button) if you'd like to give it a spin!
