I don't seem to be receiving email notifications for threads I'm following. I used to. I've checked my notification settings and my junk email folder. Used to get them, but no longer. What needs to be fixed?

Did you have a break in your email service, or accidentally reject a GS posting when you meant only to delete it?

If GS get bounces, they will stop sending you mails, and this may well be what has happened.

The GS staff who can check this, and address the issue if this is indeed the case, will be back in on Monday, and no doubt they will respond further then.

Good luck!

Thank you, your answer has been an eye opener, although I don't think that's the issue in this case--at least Get Satisfaction is not showing up in my Blocked Senders list. There were a whole lot more addresses in that list than I expected, though, and that was a big surprise. I'm a techie, and because I understand at least a little about junk emails and what blocking them can do to legitimate vendors, I always unsubscribe to lists by using links provided. But only by legitimate vendors. I guess my email client sometimes recognizes when I do that and adds them to my Blocked Senders list automatically. Not sure I like that!

At any rate, I still need help from GS. We'll nail it down, I'm sure. :)

I guess I'd better be more specific, since I just got a notification for this thread! I didn't get one for the latest response to a thread I'm following in another community: Quicken.

That's odd, though just about possible, if you don't have the top choice under Email Addresses in your profile ticked :-

x Send me email at my primary email address about new replies on topics I have posted, replied to, or followed

but you do have the second option ticked under GetSatisfaction in your Community Notifications:-

Get Satisfaction
You are an User of Get Satisfaction
Notify me of all new topics in Get Satisfaction
x Notify me of every new topic and every new reply in Get Satisfaction

But I shan't be surprised if you tell me this is not the case, and we will need to wait for GetSat to unravel this on Monday :-(

Hi Carolyn, Per our email server I see that you have successfully been receiving all email notifications for the past 2 days. Unfortunately I can only see information for the last 74 hours, if you experience this again please let me know. It is also possible that your Hotmail email might have flagged a post as spam so it may be in the spam folder.

I'll throw in here. Over the weekend, I seem to have received all notifications, however some have had a note at the top that says warning that said the email contained links to sites hosting malware. The only links were the ones back to the topic. We are using Google Suite, so they may have had their system do something based on user actions. I know some of my customers subscribe to a category and can't figure out why they are unable to unsubscribe from emails. Rather than ask, they mark as spam. That can screw up the system if many people do it.

Hotmail also operate SPF (Sender Policy Framework) soft fails, and IIRC correctly, it puts these in the Spam folder, though it doesn't quite go so far as to think they are spam, it just suspects they might be.

SPF fails happen when the email originates from an address which is not the address it shows itself as being From:, and the email software, upon querying the server behind the From: address, either gets no response, or gets told 'no we don't allow the use of our address from third party servers'.

A brilliant antispam measure in many cases, but the bane of people like myself who post from all over, and so use a secure relay to save changing my email configuration all the time :-(

Especially when email receiving software, or servers, use Hardfail, which Hotmail thankfully is smart enough not to do.

We might hope that GetSat would not fall foul of this in their own email setup though.

I'll keep an eye on it. At the moment, I don't have any unanswered questions--thanks to this site! :D

Since we've got the same issue with a customer of ours, thought I'd just ask out here. What can we do to help her receive notifications for posts she's following? She says she hasn't got anything blocked and nothing in her spam folder.
