Release Notes 5/23/2017: New Profile Pages

In this release, we launched the first phase of brand new profile pages. These are created to not only be more in line with the look and feel of communities, but are also now community specific.

On the new community profile page, any stats related to activity will display for only the selected community. This will make it a lot easier for community teams to understand that users activity in their community, especially if they do not have access to Manage Workspace and People Management. As a community member, this will be especially helpful for those in multiple communities to track their activity in each individual community.

Underneath their user profile image, are the options for your community members to update their profile and adjust their email notifications. If you have customers that ask about turning off email notifications for your community, this is a great place to direct them.

The second box underneath their profile image will give an overview of their activity in that specific community. Previously, these numbers reflected activity in all communities that user belonged to.

Visual elements that will be pulled in from communities are the custom header and custom footer (if one is implemented) and the main color scheme. You can learn more about these customizations by reading this Get Satisfaction Education Center article on Customization.

In the profile topic list, you will now see icons to note when topics a user has posted have been merged into another topic or have been archived. Closed topics will appear in the list but will not be notated with an icon at this time. Any topics that have been removed from the community will not appear.

There are some additional changes that we are working on, and some actions will still take you to a legacy profile page. We will include these updates in future releases and they will be noted in future release notes as well.

Thanks for this! Looks nice!

A few things I noticed though...
  1. There doesn't seem to be a mention of a user's gamification points score. Seems like that would be a nice addition.
  2. How do I find a users memberships in other communities? It's helpful here in the GS community to guide others to the right place when they're having problems. For the majority of others, it's probably entirely unnecessary. I see their memberships for members in my own community.

Thanks for the feedback Drew! We'll add in the points in the next release. Regarding multiple memberships, we went back and forth on that and for now decided not to show those because you're now viewing the profile within the context of a community, and we definitely have customers that don't want other community names popping up within the context of their own. I think ultimately we'll be recreating part of the profile page in a community-agnostic way (including page routing and styling), the way it is now, and can show this info there.

I can appreciate that other communities don't show up. Take all of your sandboxes or my own, for example. Those are things that should be hidden.
For helping users who come to the GS community for help, it's nice to see where they belong to give them help in that context. I guess it's just a matter of asking them to share if it becomes necessary to know that information.

Maybe there's a permissions aspect that could be introduced to displaying this information, such as for champions?

Yes, as long as there is always a Champion on duty weekends and overnight :-)

But it was always intriguing to see people complaining about the floods of emails they were getting from some other Community, and when you looked at their profile, they weren't in any others.

I just got caught trying to do an 'All Communities' check when you can't any more though, and I would like to see this come back.

Bit of a faff, but if you think you might know where someone is from, there is a workaround; pick up that Community name from a URL for it, pick up the /people/theirnamehere from the Profile in the GetSat Community, bolt them together, and feed the result to your browser.

If you are right, you will get the desired result.

It's usually Quicken, anyway :-)

Bug:
The first letter of the 2nd "word" in a user's name or nickname is displayed in lowercase in the page title. It's capitalized properly everywhere else that I can tell.

Something very similar is affecting the list of memberships which I see on my new Profile, where each has only an initial capital, and the rest in lower case.

Rectifying this needs more than just using proper case - e.g my 'home' Community is styled YouView - but all the names seem to be properly shown on the Email & Notifications page, and should be rendered on this new profile page with the same capitalisation.

I suppose this is a good place to bemoan, once again, that I can't give up any of these 'memberships' of forums that I visited merely once, if ever, and only obtained by dint of escorting lost souls home when you moved one of their postings home from the GetSat Community, and mine went with it :-(

And it might not be the world's worst idea to put them in alphabetical order, as in Email & Notifications either; if there is a sequence to the memberships list at all, I can't see what it is. Chronological order of joining, perhaps, as a WAG?

Yeah! One thing I noticed is the ability to see posts in private areas via the profile!  :-)

Have not tried yet for other users. WIll users that have access to common private areas be able to see private posts from other users listed via their respective profile of their  users? What about users that do not have access to those private areas; is it safe to assume that they will NOT be able to see those private posts?

Hi!

Looks great!

Wish:
1: To be able to see if the user is champ, alumn or employee would be great.
2: A quick button to Manage View for the user.

Question:
Am I not a member of Get Satisfaction?
I felt so involved - but now heartbroken ;)

/Anna

A further good catch - my memberships do not seem to include GetSat itself, whether I look at my profile from within GetSat or from YouView.

So it's not just you, Anna :-)

But if you look at your Email & Notifications, I think you will find you are 'an User of GetSatisfaction' (or 'a User' as we say in English) and hopefully, this is the same thing as being a member.

Though 'member' gets used a bit loosely in GetSat; looking at the Leaderboard, I am enjoined to 'see all members', but when I do, they have morphed into 'Everyone', and 'members' are now those ordinary persons who are neither Champion, Alum, nor Employee :-)

Profile page looks good but on the posts themselves we used to be able to hover over the profile picture and see more information.  The profile hover contained information about where the user was from.  This was critical in helping us support the user's questions.  Any idea on what happened to that?

Hi Nate,

You should still be able to view this information through the People Management section of Manage Workspace. Can you confirm if you are seeing it there or not?

We can see the email but not the Uid field that we have added there.  Thanks!

Hi Nate, sorry it's not obvious - you have to click the word "Fastpass" on the user's profile to see that.

Just to confirm, the rollover/hover state showing the customers email address from the community view by admins was intentionally removed? (and the only way to currently access it is from the Console view)

The option to suspend a user directly from his profile seems to be gone, at least for champions. Now we have to ban a spammer through the console view where I cannot see the ban button properly, possibly due to my low screen resolution of 1024x768p.
