Right click topic title, open in new tab, results in broken page

The community moderator provided the following reason for archiving: Issue has not had activity in a very long time. If the issue still persists we will not be fixing it in the current application, so sorry! Our new platform will not have these issues as it's built on different architecture.

Go to a page like: http://getsatisfaction.com/corp/help/...

Right click on one of the topic links and open in new tab, for ex: https://api.getsatisfaction.com/topic...

The page that then opens is full of raw code without formatting.

I am using the latest version of Chrome.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for reporting this to us. We are undergoing some maintenance to the site right now so there are some temporary irregularities that may occur. I will make sure our tech team is aware of what you've been noticing and thank you for your patience while we update Get Satisfaction!

Amy :)

Hi there,

I checked again and these articles are part of the new Get Satisfaction Engage module. If you click directly on the link, it'll open the article in a new window, so there's no need to right-click and open in new tab. Give it a go and let us know what you think!

Hi Geysa, thanks for your reply. I know you guys must have put a lot of work into the new modules, but as you asked what I think, I have to say that I think you are setting yourself up with a big usability problem.

Right click, open in new tab, is a standard user behaviour in all browsers. People are going to expect to be able to do that and when they do, they will see "broken pages" which won't reflect well on your excellent service.

For a personal use case - as an admin for my community - say that I open our community page each morning to see what's new. What I would like to be able to do is to right click and open in new tabs all the new topics that have appeared.

In comparison, going through each topic in turn, opening and closing a popup window is cumbersome. Launching a popup doesn't feel like a very modern, elegant or user-friendly approach to web interface design. I am already finding it to be quite annoying to be constantly open and closing new windows.

Hi FM KingKatt,

I don't want to speak for Geysa, but I wanted to give you a bit more transparency as well. Geysa wanted to get you "unblocked" and able to use the widgets as they are right now, and that is what I read in her advice.

We really appreciate the feedback on this usability issue. I will let you know that it has already been filed in our feedback list for the beta and is being scoped to fix. So to be really open, yes we hear you and we already alerted the team that you saw this.

Thanks again for the feedback and please do let us know as there are other things about the widgets that you find counter-intuitive or broken!

Thanks,
Jenn

Thanks for your replies. Good to know you have people looking at this and that things can still change and improve before the launch.

We are right in the middle of redesigning our own website and I have a feeling these new widgets are going to be very useful. These widgets couldn't come at a better time and I'm looking forward to the release at the end of the month.

That's so great to hear! Looking forward to seeing how you implement them. :)
