Is there a problem with this site?? I have posted a reply to message on a forum and it throws an error message "Whoops there have been a server error".
However when I refresh the topic section my reply has been posted successfully.
This has happened 2 times in a row now 2 days apart and starting to get annoying now.

Hi Richard! I'm so sorry you ran into the server error message. We did a somewhat-major release to our code base on Monday, so I'm wondering if what your experiencing is a result. Can you share which community you were trying to post in? I'll let an engineer know right away. Also, please let me know if you experience any other errors.

Thanks for reporting it to us and so sorry for the annoyance!

Hi, the forum is community https://getsatisfaction.com/inqmobile...

I had posted 3 days ago and don't recall having problems then so perhaps this is an intermittent issue.

Okay so I had another one of them server errors incidentally replying to this forum doesn't trigger the error but replying to posts at inqmobile does.

The error page is as follows:

Whoops! There's been a server error.

Our nerds have been notified and we should be back up and running soon.

If you're up for it, please report this problem to us using Get Satisfaction. Or, in the event that we broke things so badly you can't use the site at all, email us about the problem at bugs@getsatisfaction.com. With your help, we'll patch everything up as quickly as we can.

I also noticed the error page says at the top "Log in or Sign up" which would suggest I am not logged into the server.
However this is not the case when I got back to the forum topic page my post was successful and I am still logged in.

Then again I could be wrong about where I post now:

Hey Richard! Sorry for not following up with you sooner! The information you posted is certainly helpful and I've passed it along to our engineers. They've acknowledged that there is something fishy going on, but I don't know much more than that. I will keep this topic posted as best as I can when I hear more.

In the meantime, please accept my most sincere apologies for those error messages! I know they're super annoying, and usually go away after a second. If for some reason you notice double posts due to those errors, let me know and I can clean them up for you.

Just FYI this error still hasn't gone away and in fact I've discovered yet another one while posting on a separate issue:

Has there been any progress with identifying this problem yet??

The above error message seems to indicate that after posting and refreshing, the page wasn't ready for displaying yet.

Are you running load balancing web servers?? it would appear that one isn't keeping in sync with the other, or perhaps a delay before refreshing page might be needed.

btw: I have http pipelining enabled to speed up my browsing experience I hope this isn't somehow causing problems with your servers.

Hi Richard,

The page not found error typically occurs when you land on a page that isn't there. An example of this would be if the topic were removed by a moderator. Did you experience this error after trying to post a new topic? Or did you just click on a URL and it brought you to the page?

I will follow up with our engineers today and see if they have any updates on the "Whoops!" error you reported earlier. Thanks!

Hi Caty, I posted a new topic today called "removing uploaded images??" I received the page not found error soon after clicking on "Post".
Perhaps the two problems are related at least in both cases I can post successfully however it would be nice my browser didn't keep showing error messages.

As for http pipelining this could be ruled out I just checked my browser settings and it turns out it was already disabled.

Thanks for more information! I saw your "removing uploaded images" topic (still working on finding an answer), so I'll pass this along. Sorry for the annoyance!

Hi everyone,

We have a patch for this bug and will be testing it soon. If all goes well, it should be released by the end of next week.

Thanks for your patience!

I just tried twice to post a new topic to the FamilySearch "get satisfaction" site, and got a "page not found" at the end of the process both times.
I guess nobody actually wants my feedback, this is all just for show.

Official Response
Hi everyone,

We've released a fix that should remove the condition in which posting a new *topic* causes a "page not found" error.

In the case of seeing an error when posting a *reply*, please let me know if such a case occurs again. I haven't been able to reproduce that in my own testing, and if that is happening it's probably for a different reason than the bug that was fixed today.

Hi Mark

This just became aware to us about 10 minutes ago. It seems to be platform wide. Our engineers are looking into resolving the issue asap.

Thanks for your patience. Feel free to check our status Twitter account for updates.

I was getting this whoops error too as well and then it seemed like it had resolved and now it simply is not letting me post at all.

I am trying to launch this to my sales team in 5 minutes too. Not the best first impression.

Hi Carolyn

We are so sorry for the trouble. We use Amazon servers to host our platform and they have been having problems all morning. Our engineers are working to rerouting the traffic, and so far most issues have been resolved. We are still seeing a few intermittent errors.

Due to a storm in San Francisco, our phones are also down right now. Seems that a few things our out of whack this morning, and we certainly don't want to leave you with a bad impression! We are working hard to get this sorted out.

Again, we are so sorry. Your CSM, Kevin, will be reaching out to you from his cell phone shortly.

We will update the thread when we are back to full service. We will also update our system status Twitter account when back to normal: @gsfnstatus.

Hey everyone,

Earlier this morning, Amazon (who we host our platform on) experienced some server failures. Our engineering team has rerouted traffic away from Amazon's failed servers and is working on some emergency cleanup. For the most part everything should be back to normal, however there's a chance you might encounter the occasional "Whoops!" error.

If you're still seeing the "whoops!" error consistently, please post a link on this thread, or send it over to us via Twitter (if you can't get to this community). We're so sorry for the trouble this server hiccup has caused and hope that this is the end of it!
