Thanks for the feedback! I've shared this topic with our Director of UX and we'll update the topic status once she reviews. Thanks!

Thanks for the observation and the request. Currently we don't have any plans on changing the vertical spacing specifically but have noted your idea.

As we begin to remodel the community page, we'll keep your idea in mind. Should we change out the spacing in the future, we'll send you a note to let you know of the change.

Many thanks, Wayne.

@Wayne - Just a quick question on this. Is the size of the ABOUT section getting in the way of your workflow? I noticed that in your screenshot you were logged in as a moderator and were trying to add a tag. For an end-user, the moderation toolbar obviously isn't there so the size of the ABOUT section is less of an issue. Just wondering if this was just an aesthetic issue or a task/workflow issue.

Steven, you have hit the nail on the head. I am a mod. And I also dislike UI that causes me to unnecessarily scroll = lost time. :)

perhaps a factor and I didn't think of this before, so for full disclosure, windows text display settings to 125% for improved reabability on high res screen 1680x1050

it is worth nothing the issue also exists for me for this current topic.

Thanks for thinking of me :)

Interesting! Yeah, I figured based on your screenshot that may have been the problem. Actually one thing we're thinking about doing is separating out moderation tools into their own app that's totally optimized for the task of moderation. So instead of having moderation tools intermingled with the consumer facing version of the topic pages (e.g. with the moderation toolbar on the side), you'd have those tools all in a separate application where you could concentrate on your workflow. You'd still have access to all the user-generated content from the topic page, but it'd be formatted in such a way that's optimized for moderation. What are your thoughts on that?

Official Response
This has been implemented in the new version of our application. The topic pages have been completely redesigned with responsive design principles, so you shouldn't see unnecessary vertical space. :) The new version will be available next week, so look for more information from us on how to switch to the new app then. Here's a screenshot of what the Mozilla community looks like on the new app (with no custom branding applied):
