What should I do if I've somehow ended up with duplicate accounts?

If you've ended up with multiple Get Satisfaction profiles and would like to consolidate the two, our team can help you out! Unfortunately we're unable to merge the content from one account into another, but we can transfer the email address of the profile you'd like to remove over to the profile you'd like to keep, and then close down the duplicate profile.

To get the process started, simply post a reply on this thread with the URL of the profile you'd like keep, and the URL of the profile you'd like to remove. Be sure to mark which is which! :)

If you don't know the URL of your profiles, simply submit a ticket to our team and someone on our side will help you out. Thanks!

So since the content from the duplicate account (Google) can't be transferred over to my primary account (this one), is there any benefit to transferring the other email address over to this account? Does that mean I can log in using either email address and still reach the same account? If I plan to stick with using the email address on my primary account, should I just delete the other account?

Hi there,

If you only wish to use the http://getsatisfaction.com/people/wes... account and will be using the email address already on there, then you are correct -- transferring the email address from the second isn't necessary.

I can remove the second profile (http://getsatisfaction.com/people/wes...) for you right now! Should you ever need to add another email address to your primary account, you can do so at any time.

Do you plan to develop a real account merging feature in the future? Or at least allow to link an existing account to OpenID?

Hey Dragomouse! This is definitely a feature we've considered, but building an account merging feature is not in our near term roadmap. We're always re-evaluating features based on feedback we get from customers and community members. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything different from the product team. :)

If the email address associated with OpenID is the same email address that you use to log in to Get Satisfaction, then our systems should automatically link the two for you.

Can you please merge my two profiles too? It's a bit strange though.
1) My real profile is https://getsatisfaction.com/people/jpnl
2) The duplicate is https://getsatisfaction.com/people/jo...

It's a bit strange though and kind of looks as if they are already merged because if I am in account #2 (duplicate) and go to the dashboard, it redirects me to the account #1. However, in profile #2 I have 4 topics that do not exists in profile #1.

Hi, that is unfortunate. So that is basically closing one account in stead of merging accounts. Ok well, the topics from my old account are now followed by my new account so you can go ahead.

But please make sure to ONLY move/close the right profile!

But as I mentioned before, it's strange because if I go to the "profile information" from this account, I get redirected to the url of the profile that I want to keep... (!)

Does this maybe mean that they are in fact already merged?

Hey JP. Yes, it's not a true merge unfortunately. I believe you're being redirected back to your primary profile when you attempt the view the profile information of your duplicate account because that area is private and you need to be logged in as that user in order to view the profile information for that account. I will carefully move the information from your duplicate account to your primary account and close out the duplicate. Thanks!

Hey Sarah! Happy to help you out with that... just to clarify, I'm unable to do a true merge of the accounts. I can move your email address over & shut down the 2nd account, but the two topics associated with the 2nd account will not move over. Will that still work for you?

I've unfortunately set up a community with a new personal account/profile by mistake and would like it all merged somehow.

I have 2 personal URL's:
1. http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr...
2. http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr...

I set up the community https://getsatisfaction.com/hindenburg using the URL: http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr... but I'd really like to keep the profile http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr....

Is it possible to either merge the 2, keeping http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr... as my URL and moving the https://getsatisfaction.com/hindenburg community over,
OR
If I delete the http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr... account, will this personal URL then become available for registration with the other profile?

(PS to complicate matters, I managed to change my status from Admin to employee on the community while trying to invite another employee as I misunderstood the interface, but I have requested that I be re-instated as the Admin as there is no admin in place at the moment :/)

Sorry for the mess, hope you can help. As you can see, I'm not having a good Get Satisfaction day today :(

Hi Chris,

I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated right now but we can fix this! No problem at all. Your admin access has been restored and I have also made your http://getsatisfaction.com/people/chr... account an admin.

We can "merge" the two accounts but please know that the topic history from the account you no longer want will not be transferable to the other account. If you'd like to continue with the merge, just let us know and we'll take care of it. In the meantime, you will be able to work on the community again with either account.

Please note that it no longer says you aren't associated with the community. That changed when we restored the admin access. :)

I don't really need 2 accounts or the old threads. I'd be happy to have both emails on the on the same account if possible.

So if by "merging" the result is that I have one account with the profile chris_mottes and ownership of the Hindenburg community, that's perfect.

The strange thing is that the reason we have a duplicate is because when she tried to do a password request using her email, it said that it didn't exist.

There's one post from the account we want to remove - Ideally I'd like that moved to the one we want to keep but not sure if that's possible.

We're not able to do a true merge of the accounts, but the content posted by the removed address will stay in the community. The name of the user will just say "removed" is all. If he still wanted to receive updates for the topics that he posted from the removed account, he could just go in and click the follow button on them individually. Do you still want me to go ahead and merge, or do you want to give him a day or two to follow the older topics? Just let me know and I'll take care of it. Thanks!

https://getsatisfaction.com/funl and https://getsatisfaction.com/sharebliss are both URLs to communities, and not to a user profile. (This is what a user profile URL looks like: https://getsatisfaction.com/people/to... ) Unfortunately, I cannot consolidate communities with user profiles. Were there 2 other user profiles that you needed to consolidate? Or were you trying to consolidate the 2 communities? Please let me know so I can figure out how to help you.

Also, just to clarify, we cannot do a true merge of multiple user profiles. I can transfer the email address of the profile you'd like to remove over to the profile you'd like to keep, and then close down the duplicate profile, but unfortunately I cannot move all of the content into one profile.
