I've been using Ghostery 5.1.2 on my mac as an addon in Firefox, which I just upgraded to 28.0 earlier today. I've only had Ghostery for about a week, but the problem I have is that in the last two or three days the alert bubble and the badge over the Ghostery icon have stopped showing up.
I checked my preferences, and they are supposed to be there. I even tried disabling them and re-enabling them, but it didn't help. I tried switching to 5.2.0, but the problem persisted. But when I re-installed 5.1.2 they came back, which was great, but when I came back a few hours later, they were gone again.

Hi All of Us,
Thanks for using Ghostery!
Which operating system/version are you using? I can't replicate this on Mac 10.9.2 or Windows 7 -

I'm having the same problem. Just installed the latest version in Firefox 28.0, Windows 7 Home Premium 64. Came back half and hour later and the Ghostery icon is gone from the Navigation Toolbar.
This, needless to say, makes Ghostery pretty much impossible to use. Seems like it's been going on for a month or so also . . . .- view 8 more comments

check out the beta version and see if you still have this issue:

I have this problem also. Using Windows 8.1 and Firefox 28.0
Ghostery is there and not disabled. I re-download and re-install and the bubble reappears. Would appreciate help. -

I have the same problem, except nothing works at all, no scan tools and option non-responsive, etc. I'm running Windows 8.1Pro, update 1 and Firefox 28.0.

can you try creating a new FFX profile and see if the problem persists there?

I created a new profile with Ghostery as the only add-on. It seems to OK for now.

I now have Ghostery working for me. I started a brand new version of Firefox, I added each of my preferred Add-ons, checking to be sure Ghostery still worked. After getting all my preferred Add-ons and Ghostery working, restored my bookmarks from a backup by Mozbackup. I did not restore anything else from the backup. I'm now back to having Firefox work the way I like including a functioning copy of Ghostery. Is it possible somebody slipped in a cookie that blocked Ghostery?

I doubt it.. but.. can you give me a list of the other addons you have? maybe there is a conflict.

Well I want to do that, but when I went back to an older backup to see what I had as Add-ons when Ghostery wasn't working, Mozbackup loaded everything into the new version 29.0.1 of Firefox and Ghostery and all my old Add-ons are working fine together. Was it Firefox version 28? I don't have an old version of Firefox, so i can't check that. Thanks for the help.
