On my older computer that runs XP Pro SP2, I usually use Opera because it is a more recent version (12.15) of that browser than the very old Fx 4 that I have on XP. (Plus, I mostly use my Windows 8 Pro computer).
Yesterday, I started Fx4 on XP Pro, for the first time in over a year, and to my delighted surprise, Ghostery 2.7.2 immediately updated itself to current definitions! I'm still a bit stunned as I would never have thought that Ghostery would update like that on a old Ghostery version, on an old OS, and very old Fx browser version. It's great!
One thing I noticed though that I like so much better in Ghostery 2.7.2 on Fx 4 on XP Pro is that it shows, on the General tab in Options, the TOTAL NUMBER OF TRACKERS AND TOTAL NUMBER OF COOKIES being blocked currently. Why has that VERY USEFUL item been dropped from recent versions of Ghostery? It is irritating to have to add all the categories together anytime I want to know how much is being blocked and whether or not I should do a manual update. I don't see that total number on Fx 24.4 ESR, SeaMonkey 2.25 or Opera 12.15 on Windows 8.0 Pro. Could you bring that item back?

There's an Opera 12.16 for Windows, which you can download here:
http://www.opera.com/download/guide/?...
I don't like the change either. Three things would have to happen to restore the missing functionality.
- Convince Alexei (since it's allegedly entirely his fault).
- Tweak t_blocking_summary() to pass num_total in all cases where small is false. That function is defined in data/lib/browser.js for Firefox, and lib/browser.js or lib/utils.js for the other desktop browsers.
- Modify each of the language translations for
blocking_summary_all
blocking_summary_none
blocking_summary_trackers_all_firefox
blocking_summary_trackers_none_firefox
blocking_summary_lsos_all_firefox
blocking_summary_lsos_none_firefox
to accept a numeric parameter.
Instead of "Blocking all trackers," it might read "Blocking all 1908 trackers."
Instead of "Blocking no trackers," it might read "Blocking no trackers out of 1908."

It is the latest version of Opera (before Opera sold us out) that I have. It is difficult to remember the exact version of browsers I use on both of my computers and Thunderbird version. (I checked about/thunderbird about a week ago for the exact version and even though I had in Options/advanced to NOT check automatically for updates, TB instantly downloaded and installed the latest version which is garbage...I had to do a system restore as it was unusable...anyhow, from now on if I don't remember exactly which version of a browser or email client so be it as I don't want anything like that to happen again...it wouldn't with Opera since the next version was the sellout one that cannot be updated to from the last good version ...but still, I won't be checking anymore to see if my memory is right).
So this forcing me to add up all the categories to get the total number being blocked is not a bug but deliberate and done by Alexei? Hmmmm....
So, Alexei, can you tell me why you made this change? It is a lousy change IMO. It is irritating and takes more of my time to add that up manually. Please put back the totals.-
I only mentioned it because there was a security advisory recommending all 12.15 users upgrade to 12.16. There's no reason not to; it doesn't break anything.

Alexei, here's another reason for putting the totals back.
I updated SeaMonkey from 2.24 to 2.25 recently. Ghostery was auto updating on 2.24 but it doesn't auto update or manually update on 2.25.
Because there are no TOTALS anymore, I didn't realize it wasn't up to date UNTIL I added up all the categories in Sea Monkey 2.25 and then looked at Ghostery in Fx 24.4 ESR and added up the categories there to get tracking totals and cookie totals and then I compared Fx totals to SM totals and could then see that SM totals are out of date. So, I tried doing a manual update of Ghostery definitions for Sea Monkey. It did not update.
It should not be such a hassle to learn that SeaMonkey is not auto updating or manually updating. If there were totals showing it would have been so much easier to see that SeaMonkey Ghostery is not working correctly in the latest SM version.-

We could display bugsVersion somewhere, such as the About tab of the Options page. The total number of trackers goes up and down, but bugsVersion always increments.
