I’m sad

Browser becomes unusable with Ghostery enabled :(

Heavy CPU drain on FF Aurora. Browser becomes unusable with Ghostery enabled. Had to turn it off. Though I really ♥ it!! Can someone confirm?

So: First I thought it was from a certain website. But after I killed the browser a couple of times I saw a JS popup about a ghostery script blocking the browser. So I just disabled Ghostery and now everything seems fluid again!

Was there an update? I mean I updated FF Aurora but not that I knew of a Ghostery update.

  • Hi ewerybody, thanks for using Ghostery.

Ghostery does have overhead, but it also exposes a lot of settings to allow you to tweak performance. That said, maybe you could answer a few questions for me so I have a better understanding of your local setup? What other addons do you have installed? Do you reuse a profile when upgrading Aurora releases or create new every time? What are your OS and CPU + RAM? Do you run Ghostery in blocking mode (ie, you have more trackers that are blocked than unblocked?). Do you also block cookies? Next time the unresponsive script issue happens, could you please let me know which file and which line (basically, take a screenshot or copy the contents of it)?

    Thanks.

    Greetings ewerybody,

    Thanks for using Ghostery!

I just did a fresh download of Aurora and have 2.8.4 running on it and everything seems to be working fine. What OS are using? do you have any other add-ons installed?
