Can't use Ghostery with Firefox 3.6.11 with a custom profile location.
For certain security purposes, I sometimes use a Firefox profile where all of the profile data is stored on a removable drive. For example, invoked via "...\firefox.exe" -profile "F:\ffoxprofiles\my_profile". I can't get Ghostery to work correctly. It works fine for Firefox started in the normal way, but if I do the install from Firefox using the custom profile location, the add-on manager reports that it is incompatible and will be updated when Firefox restarts. Clicking on Restart just gets you back to the same state. If I do the install from Firefox started normally, and then close Firefox and start a new instance with the custom profile location, the behavior is similar. Is this a Ghostery bug or is there a workaround? Thanks.

1Mike, thanks for using Ghostery.
Ghostery is supposed to work with whatever profile you might create. Sometimes I've seen similar error during the installation because of the corrupt download. To fix this, I usually cleaned out the ghostery remnants in extension directory and installed again. Another issue might be caused by permissions of the folder and if the drive has enough space for Ghostery. If you'd like direct support, please email me: felix@betteradvertising.com-
Mike October 26, 2010 14:18It took some effort to expunge all traces of the Ghostery install. I was in a state where uninstalling the extension wouldn't take. So I manually deleted the Ghostery files, and also a number of profile files related to extensions that can be safely deleted to clear problems (e.g. extensions.rdf) that are auto-regenerated. (The Mozilla doc of the profile structure explains what can be deleted and regenerated to clear problems. Basically everything extension-related that could be cleared, I cleared.) I then tried to do the install again, this time starting first with the custom profile instance, and then repeating with my standard profile. Doing it in that order seemed to work. Thanks for your help.EditDeleteRemove
