BCY, thanks for trying out Ghostery!
Generally, if the IE is running, Ghostery uninstall will not be able to remove everything until a full restart. After restart, all Ghostery IE pluging files are wiped out.
If you want to manually remove it, please find this folder on your machine and delete it: C:\Program Files\GhosteryIEplugin -

I too had my xp pro - ie 8 system slow up - followed your remove instructions but found that a GhosteryMimeFilter dot dll was left in the GhosteryIEplugin file.
How do I safely remove the .dll ?
IE8 may be a long time coming - wish you would get a fix for IE8 -

Thanks for the instructions for uninstalling Ghostery. I wish It had been easier for me to use. The program unfortunately slows my comp down to the point that it is impossible for me to use it as I normally do. Good luck with the program and I will look at it in the future for a possible download.
