Delay-activation even for acceptable trackers (Social Share Privacy support)

There's an on-demand social share plugin for webmasters concerned about their users' privacy at http://panzi.github.io/SocialSharePri...

I'd like the option to have even the 3rd party trackers I've whitelisted in Ghostery be on-demand, i.e. always blocked from tracking me web-wide, and unblocked only on those pages where I actively interact with (Ghostery's rendering of) their widget, with a 2-click action.

    Hi Dan,

    Thanks for using Ghostery!

Are you talking about site-selective whitelisting? If so, we have that feature in Firefox and soon to the others. You can add a single tracker to be unblocked on given pages.

    Let me know.

I use Opera 12. While Ghostery has a Whitelisted Sites option (the same as Firefox’s Site Whitelist, presumably), I’m not using it, as I want blocking to apply to all webpages.

My setup after a fresh Opera install would be:
    - Block all trackers
    - Go to a page with several of them, e.g. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/te...
    - Notice that Ghostery blocks all detected trackers
    - Use a bookmarklet to “+1” that page: javascript: void(window.open(’https://plusone.google.com/ _/+1/fastbutton?bsv=pr&url=’+encodeURIComponent(document.URL)))
(Here, Ghostery’s behaviour is different: in Opera, I get a "Ghostery blocked https://plusone.google.com/... which is part of Google +1." message, for which I click to allow Google +1 and reload; in Firefox, a new page with the +1 widget loads fine directly without warning.)
    - After allowing, on all webpages the Google +1 widget is now enabled (no longer blocked), including the above URL (there’s a possible bug here: in Firefox, Ghostery reportedly blocks 13 trackers there, including the Google +1 widget; in Opera, Ghostery reports just 8 trackers, but it’s obvious that the +1 widget has now been loaded, on the left of the article.)

I’d want Ghostery to not force me to whitelist the Google +1 widget when loading plusone.google.com manually, but instead to keep blocking the widget web-wide. (like I see it does, as expected, on Firefox)
If that’s not possible (even in Opera 15+), I’d like all non-blocked widgets to be 2-step clickable, in other words even permissable widgets to only be activated on demand.

  • I’m undecided
On a slightly unrelated note, Social Share Privacy widgets still don't work properly.
E.g. I can't click the +1 on the http://regviz.org/ unless I pause Ghostery (I think the refresh makes the widget forget). Also plenty of widgets misbehave on https://panzi.github.io/SocialSharePr...
