I’m anxious & confused

detection of Trojan.Hoster in Ghosteryiesetup.exe - is it false positive?

SuperAntiSpyware detected Trojan.Hoster in files C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\GHOSTERYIESETUP.EXE and C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\GHOSTERYIESETUP.EXE-00246A83.pf -- Is this a false positive? I've attached a screenshot. Trying not to panic -- don't want to delete/quarantine if not a trojan. Thanks, Vicki

  • I’m confused
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware also thinks Ghostery is a trojan.

I had several infected register keys.

But my system has been running really slow and still is so I ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and performed a hard disk check.

I removed Ghostery from my hard drive but it's still showing up on the FF browser task bar.

I thought Ghostery was the greatest thing since PCs came out, but this really surprised me.

    What should I do now??

    Thank you for your time.
    • Hi ladyhope, thanks for using Ghostery.

Ghostery for IE is delivered via executable, so some anti0virus scanners could pick it falsely as a trojan. Its not.

Also, Ghsotery for IE and Ghostery for Firefox are removed in 2 different ways. For IE you must run an uninstaller in your Control Panel. To remove Ghostery in Firefox, you need to open addon manager in Firefox and remove it there.
