each time I click a link it pops open a new new tab for an ad that I didn't click
If I click on any link or button, for example an enter button in a form, a new tab opens for an ad that did not show on the previous page or anywhere near the think I clicked. Only started doing this after i installed ghostery.

Hi Pete-
I have used Firefox for about 7 years. No issues...
The only way to describe it is:
I go to a page..
Click a link (or close to it) or enter or any other button that would take me to what I expect..
BUT instead it opens a new tab to an advertisement site (quibids, P&G, many other random ads) - a few of them I blacklisted with Firefox but several I can't because I would actually use them when I need to.
When I go back to the original site and click the same link and click it again it works as intended.
This happens across all sites that I am on...
It is like there is a hidden link within the one I am clicking on.
I have pop ups blocked in my browser but this gets around it somehow.
Also I see that some sites do not work correctly. If I click on a picture, or something that I want to expand it is as if I am doing nothing at all because it won't complete the action, the functionality is broken.
I have white listed a couple sites but this is random and if I whitelist everything I come across then it opens me back to what I am trying to avoid..
Thanks in advance for your help!- view 2 more comments

Lee, you may be suffering some kind of malware. Have you tried checking you computer for viruses? Also, what other addons do you have installed?

I have done several virus checks - it shows nothing no matter which one I use or how deep I look. Ghostery is the only add on I chose. I have Norton toolbar too. But I have had that for years. Now I have Blocksite to try to stop some of these pop ups but as soon as I block a few there are new ones.

I hope that it is Ok for me to place a message here as well. I have somewhat the same problem as the OP but in this case it isn't malware related.
My problem has to do with http://pirateproxy.net/
When you search for a file and you sort on seeders, the moment you click on the sort option it pop-ups a ad and sorts by seeders. This is how that website is designed.
Some kind of clickjacking I assume.
I want to put a request here for Ghostery to also tackle that annoying ad mechanism.-
This is a great conversation that's separate from the main topic, so I created a new topic to continue the discussion. Please reference the new topic here: My problem has to do with http://pirateproxy.net/
