Does Ghostery block Bananatag and its ilk from running in Gmail ect which allows the sender of an email to be notified if, when, where and for how long the email was viewed.
Great piece of software by the way and has become standard on my machines along with Adblock, NoScript and HTTPS Everywhere.
Thanks.

Hey there,
We don't have Banantag right now.. do you have any examples of it on other sites so we can look at the script? -
-
Sorry no i dont have examples of how it works script wise other than from what i have read about how Banantag, Mailtrack ect type spyware adds invisible embeded images to an email that activate when the email is viewed and phone home sending information back to the sender.
If you always view your email without ever allowing images is one way to prevent this or you can get an extension if your using a Chrome browser i believe to stop this but Firefox is the only browser i use and so i had hoped that Ghostery would have me covered.
A feature that would be most welcome in the future and right up Ghostery's street so to speak :) -

gotcha.. We'll do some investigating and see what we can find out!

A brief article over on Wired highlighting how widespread the issue is with pixel based email tracking and the interest in having a product available to stop this kind of snooping.

I have taken the initiative and asked the question over on the forums for NoScript about this same issue and although they do not block this snooping out of the box a solution was offered by adding a separate user rule to NoScript.
