Firefox auto-updated Ghostery from what I think was 5.0.0 to 5.0.1. Immediately, Activity Monitor (I'm on a Mac) showed Firefox CPU usage over 100% (aside: huh?) and my fans responded in turn making for a loud computer. I disabled Ghostery and reopened Firefox and all was well. Re-enabling Ghostery brought the high CPU usage back.
I uninstalled Ghostery, re-opened Firefox, and installed Ghostery from the website so now I'm running 2.9.6 (huh?) and turned off auto updating of addons in Firefox and am hesitant to update Ghostery. Nonetheless, my workaround worked but it seems like there's still a problem in the new version.
Oh, look, Firefox wants me to update to version 23.

1Hi John, thanks for reporting. We're aware of the issue, and it looks like there is a conflict with ABP. Please downgrade while we work out the kinks: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire... -
