Experimental build using webRequest API
It looks like the webRequest-API is not experimental anymore in the recent dev-builds of Chrome. AdBlock+ already has a experimental build that uses the new API. One Ghostery blog post stated that you are already prepared for the API - why don't share a similar experimental build? :)

Hi Sven,
According to http://code.google.com/p/chromium/iss... , webRequest is slated for Chrome 17, which is soon!
We don't have a webRequest-enabled build all ready to go just yet. I'll update this and all related threads as soon as we have something new. -

Hi Alexei,
I'm on the Chrome team, so I can tell you with some authority that WebRequest made the branch for Chrome 17's beta. If it hasn't already hit the beta channel, it will shortly.
I can also say that we'd love you to implement webRequest, for a wide variety of reasons. Drop me a line if you have questions or find bugs: mkwst@chromium.org. I'd be happy to help or triage bugs into the right queues.
Thanks!

Chrome 17 is in the beta channel now.
Does this mean we should expect a stable 17 on the 17th (of February)?

Chrome, generally speaking, is on a 6 week cycle. It's reasonable to expect that 17 will go stable sometime in February, depending on how things go in beta.
WebRequest did make the cut, however, so when Chrome 17 goes stable, WebRequest will be right there with it.

Anything new on this? Chrome 17 is stable now and Adblock even dropped support for blocking mechanisms other than webrequest in their development builds: https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplu...

1Ghostery 3.0.0 is here! We've implemented Chrome's new detection/blocking technology and it looks great!
Chrome 17 and up required; Chrome 18 and up recommended.
See http://purplebox.ghostery.com/?p=1016... for more information. -

You guys are great -- thanks so much for the new version! Any chance we'll see the "block new bugs by default" option any time soon? Thanks again!

Thanks, Mike!
Yeah, definitely. We plan on bringing over the new Categories UI options page from Firefox (along with the "block new trackers by default" setting) to Chrome in the next few updates. -

Ghostery 4.0.0 for Chrome, released today, comes with a block-by-default toggle, found under the Advanced tab on Ghostery's options page.
