I'm going to raise an objection.
... you should never specify a maxVersion that is larger than the currently available version of the application since you do not know what API and UI changes are just around the corner.¹
Week 6
The code on mozilla-central is pulled to the mozilla-aurora channel.
Extension developers can rely on the APIs they see here, with the exception of new APIs that might end up disabled. The front end XUL might change for stability reasons, but not in major ways. Again, XUL related to new features may not be available if those features end up getting disabled.²
Firefox 8
currently in NIGHTLY channel
moves to AURORA on August 16, 2011³
» I believe it should still be possible to test Ghostery on Nightly builds by opening about:config, creating a new Boolean preference named extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly, and setting its value to false.

Aurora is currently Firefox 7 (7.0a2). If nothing has changed between 6 and 7 that Ghostery cares about, it should be safe to "bless" 7. Since Mozilla shifted over to their new "Rabid" Release policy, I don't believe it's ever appropriate to pre-approve anything in the Nightly channel, which is what is at issue here. Which part of "professional driver on closed course, do not attempt these manuevers" is the difficult concept here? "I'll just remove the seatbelts, you won't be needing these" doesn't sound very beneficial.

A little birdie told me:
- Mozilla should take care of this automagically in most cases: http://blog.mozilla.com/addons/2011/0...
