Firefox hangs for a few seconds when Firebug is active

Firefox hangs for a few seconds, even on a page with no trackers to report. I have tried disabling all plugins except for Ghostery and it still happens. Disabling Ghostery mitigates the problem regardless of which other plugins are enabled. When I say "it hangs", I mean 100% CPU usage (on 1 core) for the time it takes.

This is Firefox 19.0.2 on Windows 7.

Unfortunately, the page in question is not publicly accessible.

    Greetings!

    Thanks for using Ghostery!

Which version of Ghostery are you running? Can you describe the content of the page? lots of visual media? photos, videos, etc... You can try unchecking the "scan images" option in the Performance Options section of the advanced tab.

  • I'm using 2.9.3 (I was hoping you'd assume the latest version anyway, since Firefox pretty much self-updates everything, but alright)

The page is pretty default. It's something I'm developing, and I know for a fact (and because of FireBug) that it's not even showing *any* external content, be it images, video, javascript, or otherwise. There are some images, like maybe 2 or 3, but really nothing to write home about.

Unchecking the "scan images" option does indeed bring speed back to normal.

However, in the little tests I just did, I came to notice the problem only arises when FireBug is showing *and* is on the HTML tab (which is strange because I could reproduce it without any other plugins as well). The same thing doesn't happen on a totally different pc which is running more or less the same software. This smells weird, doesn't it :)
