This was a fine add-on for Firefox v22, until you updated to Ghostery v5.0.
When I click on Ghostery in "Tools", I see a drop-down menu as follows:
Manage Ghostery's Options...
Walkthrough
...
Ghostery Blog
Nothing happens when I click on any of thes options.
Am I overlooking something?

Since version 5.0, the old menu panel isn't displayed properly (on Firefox 23, under Windows 7).
I know it's planned to be removed entirely from Ghostery, but since the option to turn it on is still there, I believe it should be fixed (or that the option should be removed).
I also wonder how to enable languages other than English.
I know that only the English locale is complete, but as I'd like to translate Ghostery, I wonder how to enable other locales so as to test it in Firefox (besides doing a ugly "hack" and replacing the messages.json and .yml files files in resources\ghostery\data\locales\en).
Last but not least, I have a suggestion to make:
since this new version added the possibility to disable trackers for specific sites, it'd be great if we could have the list of unblocked elements for specific sites be displayed under "Blocking Options", like it's the case for the white list.
Currently, one has to check the "site_specific_unblocks" part of the store.json file in Firefox's profile folder in order to see the disabled elements. -

Has anyone else seen this problem of the number covering up the Ghostery icon?

In the meantime, here's a CSS "workaround" (it reduces the counter's size and adjusts its position when Ghostery's icon is in the add-on bar):

FF updated to v23.0.1, Win 7 Pro, 32bit. Ghost automatically updated to v5.0.3. When trying to access my Gmail account FF still freezes. Removing Google Analytics from blocking allows Gmail to load.

Now I have the same issue that another poster had with version 5, but with version 5.0.3 os FF 23.0.1 (OS X 10.8.4) -- Ghostery doesn't find or block any trackers, not even on youtube.com out of all places. Had to disable it, which is sad because version 2.9.x worked just fine.

Pardon me for butting in, but I see of this screen shot that you have the little Ghostery 'bug' at the right end of the navigation bar. Mine has disappeared ( am now running 5.0.3 with Firefox 23.0.1) and I'd sure like it back, only way I can tell Ghostery is running is to enable the purple bubble.

Been enjoying the benefit of Ghostery as an add-on for Firefox for the past month; however, something changed in the last 24 hours. Embedded video, including that on sites such as the New York Times and reddit, is now blank and unplayable. Tried disabling other add-ons, no change. Tried disabling Ghostery, and videos are accessible again. What happened? How to fix?

I would like to report that Ghostery for Internet Explorer fails to install when IPv6 internet access is available. After disabling IPv6-support and forcing to use IPv4, the plugin installs fine and can be configured normally.
After install / configuring is complete, you can enable IPv6 again and it works as normal. -

not surprised, software fixes hardly ever work as planned.
Please make the version 3 available, the one before version 5.
I reported that it broke access to Scottrade. I went through this once already, trying out the test version maybe 8 weeks ago, reported this problem, went back to 3.xx it worked fine. Then firefox updated and found your update to 5.0, installed it and now it's broken again.
I've removed Ghostery completely at this point. It was a nice program before "improvements" broke it.- view 2 more comments

Nice that the latest version is automatically updated on Firefox. Good work !! And so far, all is working.
Suggestion: When I pause blocking, can you change the label on the command button to "resume blocking" -- right now it's a toggle, and requires guesswork to know if it's paused or not. When paused, the label should say "Resume" I think. -

Moving this to a 2nd comment in case Ghostery team deletes comments mentioning other extensions. I found that DoNotTrack + Ghostery worked fine on the sites I was having trouble with. It appears that DNT managed to delete the offending trackers causing the problem with Ghostery. I've run both in tandem for several days - no real problems. If you want to hold on to Ghostery but can't stand the freezes, suggest you try the same.

We didn't delete anything. I don't see any comments removed from the change log.
If you could send us a few more examples so we can try and replicate the problem that would be most helpful. -

Why Were My Settings Reset to Default Today?.
Today, 9/12/2013, all my Ghostery settings were reset to what they were upon the original installation. Why?! If this is going to continue I will have to uninstall Ghostery. I don’t enjoy redoing my settings after each update.

I'm using Firefox 23.0.1 and windows 8.
I am also using session manager to store my tabs until I start firefox the next time, but everytime I start firefox there is an additional tab with ghostery walkthrough, the tutorial is also always on when I start my browser and click on the ghost.-

Firefox 23 crashes using Ghostery 5.04 - Mac OS 6.8.
Hi,
Since I installed Firefox 23, it crashes immediately after start, so I had to disable Ghostery after testing and closing out other Add-ons. I had the issue with the bumping around ikon, too, but that wasn ́t as bad, as the whole crashing thing. Now I ́m back to version 2.9.6 which seems to be working,
but I ́d rather have the latest version.
I ́d be thankful for any help.

Since it's posting here, here is another copy of the post.
I may be mistaken and this is possibly only a Firefox thing, but Ghostery 5.0.4 with Firefox 23 or 24 appears to be responsible for repeatedly spamming Console with hundreds of these messages per second. Just noticed, or would have reported this with the upgrade from the 2.9.6 to the 5.0.4 (or the 5.0.3.) I don't remember seeing any of these messages with the 5.0.3 (or the 2.9.6), but it's possible the 5.0.3 was doing this as well--I don't bother looking in the logs unless there's some noticeable problem. I am concerned, however, since this is filling up the logs with these repeated error messages and consuming drive space.

I appear to have spoken too soon. The spamming messages are back. I certainly hope the final release will resolve this, as it's cluttering things up, eating up drive space, and generally making it hard to see any other non-Ghostery related messages.

Is v5.0.5b2 for Firefox supposed to put back the the 2 icons - one for nav bar & one for addon bar?
I'm not much on using beta versions except for that purpose - testing. I found that w/ v5.0.4 I could drag the nav bar icon (only one that showed up) to the addon bar.
Usually, if a change is needed immediately to fix one problem (like missing icon, etc.), many devs go ahead & release an update - not a beta.
There are other changes in 5.0.5, but not sure if users should have to use beta versions, to get the icon back. Just put the icon fix in a 5.0.4.1 version, w/o other unproven changes added in. Even stable versions of Fx & extensions have enough problems w/o throwing betas in the mix, for every day use.

The beta release addresses the nav bar icon disappearing. The add-on bar icon is not implemented as of yet.

I have MacOS 10.6.8 with Firefox v24.0.
I am afraid Ghostery v5.x introduced a number of problems, not just the missing icon, and it seems to be very, very slow in blocking the trackers compared with v2.9.6.
I have downgraded to v2.9.6; this works so I really don't know what v5 is trying to achieve.- view 2 more comments

Loading sites like http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/ with ghostery takes at least twice as long as without ghostery. Turning off the "click-to-play" helped a lot. Seems like a useless feature, given it makes it go so slow.

Not an isolated incident. This is happening repeatedly. I will keep Console open and set to bounce the icon, in order to see what appears to trigger it.

It doesn't appear to be related to any sites I visit. Now this is very strange indeed: the computer was idle, not sleeping, but idle for a period of time with Firefox open (I had left it to have dinner), and when I checked the Console log, there were the usual messages, but from doing absolutely nothing. This is just a short excerpt. There are hundreds of these repeating messages.

FIrefox 24. Ever since updating to ghostery 5 my browser is sluggish and often freezes for a few seconds at a time quite frequenly. disabling until this is resolved.

Running the latest 5.0.6 rc3 with Firefox 25 now, and my logs continue being spammed. 4000 of these in 24 hours. Please, come on and fix this already!

scratch that, i deleted my FF profiles and created a fresh one after backing up my bookmarks and passwords, ghostery 5.1 RC6 seems to be working fine atm and the ghostery options page loads with no problems ... so far.

Hi ghostinthemachine. The problem i'm having is that the error log that you pasted now and previously doesn't indicate an error in Ghostery, but rather an API call to addon sdk. Without some details on whats triggering it I can't replicate or debug.
Have I asked you to try this on an empty profile yet? If so, was the result the same? -

I tried with a new, clean Profile with only Ghostery. Didn't get spammed, although I'm not sure that result is necessarily reliable, since I don't get spammed right away with the usual Profile. I only went to 4 or 5 different sites that I trust because I don't much like running without NoScript and ABP. In any event, I usually don't even have to do any active browsing; the spamming may occur with Firefox completely idle. I left the new one around for about an hour.
I have quite a number of Add-ons and I'm not sure I want to go through the process of disabling them all and then adding them back one by one, especially since the spamming doesn't always happen immediately.
Perhaps you want to suggest which ones are likely culprits and I can just disable just those and then test.

The error is tab related, so maybe try disabling that close all tabs addon?

I've disabled Close All Tabs and I'm testing. Other times I've tested, such as for a different beta, I've sometimes had to wait up to two hours for these messages to start, but once they start they completely flood the logs.
I want to give this a good long time. I've never found a way to reproduce this and it doesn't seem related to any particular site or sites I visit. As I said, it can happen with Firefox just idle. I'll keep you posted. -

OK, after running for about 4 hours with Close All Tabs disabled the same ones are all back and continuing every minute or so. No idea what triggered it. Wasn't doing anything I hadn't been doing for the previous 4 hours.
I'm not a programmer and don't understand much about the meaning of these logs, but there are a lot of messages unrelated to tabs.
And since it took 4 hours before these came back, I'm not sure I would trust the earlier results of running from a new Profile with only Ghostery after only 1 hour or so.
Should I be looking for something in the Firefox Web Console? -

Hi ghost, I don't check this board daily, apologies.
Other then disable every addon you have and test one by one while enabling them, I don't really have any good advice. The console wouldn't have enough data for us to look into since its completely dependent on what an addon decides to output.
I'll add a ticket for us to suppress these kinds of errors for the next release, but its a shitty solution since it may break Ghostery visibly -- error is part of any call that requires information for the tabs... -

Since this first appeared with the 5.0.4, I believe (but possibly earlier--this was when I first noticed it) can you look for what code might have been added to Ghostery at that point which could be responsible for this. It certainly wasn't happening with the 2.9.6.
Disabling each Add-on and testing is out of the question, since it may take a few hours before any results are conclusive.
What would be the downside, if any, to reinstalling the 2.9.6? I'm still running the 2.9.6 with TenFourFox on another computer (the update isn't presented from there.) -

I have reinstalled the 2.9.6. Before doing that, removed Ghostery from Extensions, then looked around in the Profile. Nothing in prefs.js, but trashed the Ghostery folder and the Firefox entry in Jetpack.
Did I get it all, or at least everything that mattered?
The spamming has mercifully stopped and I can now look through the logs without all that junk getting in the way. I suppose I will now have to put up with any older bugs, but this was completely insufferable.
I will probably wait now until the next release, for which you say you will suppress those errors. I hope that will arrive sooner rather than later.- view 5 more comments

Installed the 5.1.0, which if you recall I had been waiting for patiently after reverting from the 5.0.6 to the 2.9.6 because of the Console log spamming. Thought the 5.1.0 was the fix, but after maybe 15 hours the spamming reappeared with a vengeance. Literally thousands of messages in the span of only several minutes. Here is a very small sample.

I have just installaed Ghostery 5.1.0 on Firefox 26 (Windows 7). It generally works fine, but won't save the option for which trackers to show in the window in the top-right corner.
On resource://firefox-at-ghostery-dot-com/ghostery/data/options.html I can select "all", "blocked", "non-blocked tracker", "new since last update" (translated from German), but no matter what I select, after saving the Option is reset to "all".
Do you have any ideas what's wrong there?-
Hi Ralf,
The option you refer to is a filter for the list of trackers on the options page. You can use it to show just a subset of all trackers (for example, only trackers you selected to be blocked). If you wanted to see all unblocked Google trackers, you would change the filter to "non-blocked", and type "google" into the search filter next to the type filter.
These tracker list filters do not affect your blocking preferences in any way. -

I’m
frustrated
I use ghostery since a few weeks on the latest FF versions. More and more often, I experience that ghostery just does not check web pages that I am visiting. It would then tell "This page has not been searched" or something along the lines. How can this be? It just drops checking pages silently, perhaps that depends on the web sites visited. As a user I want transparency when ghostery does check and when it does not. Furthermore it is abolutely essential for me to force ghostery to check everything according to the rules set by me. Did I miss an option in ghostery?

It should be a visual issue only (blocking still works), and will be fixed in the next Ghostery for Firefox update. -

As for the panel, here's a screenshot:
Notice how the purple background that used to be under the white "Ghostery found x trackers" text in previous versions of Ghostery has now disappeared, and that hovering over "click here for more information about x" turns the link from blue to white, making it quite difficult to read.
Also, much less annoying, so I'm only mentioning this for the sake of completeness: the "Ghostery found" text next to the icon is too long (or the panel is not wide enough): the "G" of "Ghostery" crosses the line, and the icon itself isn't centered.
