Ghostery refuses to work on most sites, http:// required

if i type www.foo.com into the address bar, and it goes there, ghostery will not work there. it reports that it can scan only http or https pages. but that is an http address. if i type http:// into chrome, it erases it, redundant.

so i can't get ghostery to work on most sites.
