Ghostery 2.5.3 crashes FF 4.0.1

Am running FF 4.0.1 on WIn7 and installed Ghostery. After the restart I see FF for one or two seconds then FF says: oops we're sorry. I can submit a report, then choose Restart or Quit. Quit quits. Restart does it all over again. Solved it by deleting the firefox@ghostery.com directory in my Profile.
I rebooted after that and repeated the install. Same problem.
I run other add-ons: ABP, WOT, Download Status Bar, Java Console, Browser Defender Toolbar.

  • Hi Hans, thanks for using Ghostery.

This is an unusual issue. If you could, please disable the other addons and check if Ghostery works then? If so, I'll look into the addons you list to see what causes the issue. I know Ghostery works well with ABP, but the other addons I've not tested yet.

  • Sorry this took so long, Felix.
I just disabled all add-ons except Java Console 6.0.24, after which Ghostery installs fine. I did not see the flickering screen, I went through the options, no problem. Next I'll enable the add-ons one by one. I'll report back.

  • Well, turns out to be Browser Defender Toolbar 3.0.0.311 by Threat Expert Pty Ltd. I think it is a voluntary install offered by one of the PcTools packages. If DBT is installed FF crashes after the Ghostery install. If Ghostery is installed, FF crashes after I re-enable BDT.

I then uninstalled BDT, rebooted and with Ghostery 2.5.3. installed, I re-installed BDT 3.0.0.312 (a tad newer then I had). Downloaded it from the browserdefender.com website. After another reboot, I fired up FF 4 and was given the option to install the toolbar in FF. After doing so it shows up as 3.0.0.311 in the Add-ons Manager.

I then closed FF and restarted FF without a reboot. That works. I have all my home pages, I see all installed Add-ons including Ghostery and BDT. Seems it works if you follow the right install order.

Thanks for the support Felix, hope this info helps you to.
