I’m frustrated

Ghostery 5.05 - no settings button on IE 8.0

I installed Ghostery 5.05 for IE from this site. I know it is installed because there is a blue ghost icon on the toolbar between the address bar and the lock icon which, when hovered by the mouse icon, displays "View Ghostery's Findings".

So far so good. But there is no settings icon on the toolbar. I've viewed many suggestions for this situation but, there is no arrow (>>) to scroll to the right of the blue help (?) icon.

What's wrong here? This has happened on 2 PCs.

On both PCs I have Windows XP pro SP3, IE 8.0.

    Hi Glen,

    Thanks for using Ghostery!

I'm assuming you mean you installed 5.0.5 in Firefox?? There is no 5.0.5 for IE.

    Can you confirm that?

  • Wow. I just found the options in the dialog that appears when you click to "View Ghostery's Findings".

Options can be reached by clicking on the blue gears at the bottom.

Someone needs to update the instructions in the FAQ where it says ....

    IE

•Click on Ghostery icon in the toolbar (if you can’t see it, expand the toolbar or click the arrows to view more icons).
•Select “Options” from the dropdown menu.

The wording in the tooltip is not very informative perhaps that's the real issue.
The Firefox version of the application shows up on the tools menu. Perhaps IE needs the same feature.

    • I assumed that the Ghostery on FF and IE were the same version. I don't use IE that much. But I thought I would give this a try.

I checked by clicking the '?' at the bottom of the dialog and got this ....

Ghostery for Internet Explorer version 3.1.0

There's no real issue with the option settings once I found them. But the toolbar icon tooltip text is not appropriate. Once I clicked on that icon it became obvious to me where the options were.

The description in the FAQ was not that helpful. A picture would have helped. Mind you, better text in the tooltip would have made this a non-issue.

If you visit Ghostery.com/download you will see all the different versions of Ghostery for the browsers we support. You need a separate version per browser since Ghostery lives inside your browser.

Did you take the "new panel" walk through? It explains each icon in a step by step progression.
