  • The video ad player is first party (and the way it's integrated is specific to just that one site). The point of demarcation is vast.optimatic.com, which can't be completely blocked due to the automatic whitelisting of crossdomain.xml. Consequently, there's just no good way for Ghostery to handle this.

The better approach is to not allow Flash to run indiscriminately. (This solves a multitude of other problems as well.)

If you're using Firefox, install the Click to Play per-element extension, and carefully follow the instructions, including the part about making sure the Shockwave Flash plugin is set to "Ask to Activate."

If you're using Chrome, open chrome://settings/content and set Plug-ins to "Click to play." Then open chrome://plugins and ensure Adobe Flash Player does not have "Always allowed" checked.

If you're using Safari, install either the ClickToFlash or the ClickToPlugin extension.

If you're using Opera, open Preferences, click the Advanced tab, click Content, make sure "Enable plug-ins only on demand" is checked.

    etc.
