As many members of our Ghostery community have reported on our forums and via email over the last 24hours, there’s a glitch in the latest Ghostery release for Firefox, which when encountered prevents authentication to sites like web mail logins, online banking, and (perhaps the worst on a Friday night) Netflix.
The glitch is actually occurring during the upgrade process from v2.0.3 to v2.1, where some database identifiers are getting crossed and corrupted. We have a fix, and are submitting it through the normal Firefox add-on channels today.
Ghostery Options For the Interim:
* Roll back to v2.0.3 while you wait for the updated release presently in the works
* Continue to use the v2.1, but follow the instructions below for refreshing the database links:
1. Click on the Ghostery icon -> Click on Options -> Go to the Blocking tab.
2. Select None, press Save.
3. Select All, press Save.
4. Restart Firefox.
We apologize for this inconvenience to your browsing experience, and as always, we really appreciate the community’s feedback on this in real time.
Please let us know if you encounter anything else out of sorts.
Thanks for using Ghostery!

I have had script problems, I tried this suggestion (version 2), this did not fix my problem.
I get an error message from Firefox:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: file:///home/myLinuxusernamehere/.mozilla/firefox/4d1wuntr.default/extensions/firefox@ghostery.com/components/ghostery-content-policy.js:115"
I use Kubuntu 10.04 LTS for 64 Bit Desktop.
I use Firefox 3.6.13.
I use these addons with Firefox: Flashblock, AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, StumbleUpon, User Agent Switcher, nzbdstatus, and Firefox Synch. The Ubuntu Firefox Modifications has been disabled but is not removable via Firefox addons.
Plugins to Firefox are: Enabled: Java 1.6.0_22, Shockwave Flash 10.2 d161; Disabled: Shockwave Flash 9.0 r999, Skype Buttons for Kopete (no versions mentioned).
For me, I also see MAJOR slowdowns of site loads and quite a few broken sites, since Ghostery recently updated. I'm seeing page loads that take as long as I used to suffer on 56k dialup, and today I'm using 5.5 Mbps on ADSL. I'm pulling Ghostery out and leaving Ghostery out for a while.
Ultimately, I'm not blaming Ghostery, I feel this way because everyone MUST suffer under this poorly conceived E-commerce dance called 'tracking'. This is not Ghosterys fault, it is the ultimately caused by those who push trackers into our experience. That said, I'll go back to allowing myself to be tracked, and I'll let my lack of purchasing be the information they collect, and whenever I communicate with customer services of any merchants I DO purchase from, I'll simply tell them they are ruining my user experience. -
