Hi user, thanks for using Ghostery.
Please read the discussion referenced by Eric. We will remove jQuery at some point, but its not a tracker to begin with.-
It is a tracker!
Every time you visit a page using googleapis hosted jquery, they get a referrer.
Now there are so many sites using googleapis they're tracking you in lots of places even if you're actively avoiding them and running Ghostery.
Ghostery could strip the request to googleapis of that referrer, they'd just see a direct connection to http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax... we'd get to use the original site in full functionality and get a little privacy back!
Currently an option is to use noscript to block googleapis, but that'll stop site features reliant on a bunch of standard files that could actually be sitting anywhere...
You could totally disable referrers but that'll cause numerous issues on sites that use referrers for security (e.g. online shopping) not to mention a very unique browser fingerprint which means you're easier to track! -
