Ok --- I down-loaded the opt-out google when it first came out -- I wasn't having many problems that I wanted to shoot me, my computer, or you over -- now I see a note that I have the opt-out cookie STILL on my computer -- the note says, in essence, that Ghostery won't block cookies if it's on. I've tried to remove what might be the cookie(s) multiple times --
(firefox tools --> options --> privacy --> custom settings --> show cookies --> [find google, see two cookies {PREF, NID} ] --> remove them. And they are back with every session.
How do I find and remove the opt-out cookie from Google? I presume that neither the PREF or NID are the opt-out since they don't say that when I click to get information. When Google gave me the chance I did the opt-out all over their sites, but use FF 99.99% of the time with the other .01 divided between IE and Chrome.
So-- HOW DO I DELETE THE OPT-OUT COOKIE FROM GOOGLE? I've looked and am not able to see how to do that -- thanks guys!

Hi doc,
What other extensions do you have installed? It seems like something keeps restoring your opt-out cookie. -

Well, it's not in the extension folder on firefox, but I still get the message:
It looks like you're also using the Google Opt-Out addon. Unfortunately, cookie protection from Ghostery must be disabled to avoid browser lock-up. Please disable or remove this addon if you wish to use Ghostery cookie protection.
I've never had a lock up before, but that was before I upgraded today I sure don't SEE the google opt-out in the folder -- though it may be on IE or Chrome -- and I'm not in those guys (i.e, they aren't loaded) (and it's too early for me!) -- Do I need to cold boot? -
-
Is Google Opt-Out no longer listed on Firefox's Manage Add-ons page? Restarting Firefox should be all it takes.

Nope -- it was the
advertizing cookie opt-out 1.5 (when I looked at it it had Google's name on it too)
That had it -- I disabled it and restarted, and now I don't get the message that your cookie blocker won't work -- THOUGH I DID see a lot of blocking before I got to wondering about the message --
I simply disabled it, but it removed itself! - cool.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction -- you might want to mention that's where to look to disable it somewhere on your walk-through. I didn't have a clue to look there since I have very little reason to ever go there -- and yes they DID tell me that's where it would be -- but who REALLY remembers that stuff 6 months out (has it been that long?) -- when you spend only five minutes and maybe a hot-boot. I honestly was clueless where to look I was looking under
tools --> OPTIONS in Firefox and NOT under the
tool --> EXTENSIONS. Which is where FF tells you to go to remove cookies.
Thanks a -- Brazillion -- (the number of people in the Brazilian Army I think).
you guys really DO rock! -
-
Maybe mention that it's an ADD-ON, and under EXTENSIONS. Not a 'cookie' which are other places -- I'd forgotten (if I ever knew -- though I'm sure I read it).
thanks again -- as often is the case, it was ME and not YOU. sighhhhhhhhhhhhh. now I'm very VERY happy with your help in working with me -- have a WONDERFUL rest of the day!
I am but a tiny moon orbiting great minds!

Maybe U should ask for removing "Optimize Google" as it is the real name and not "GOOGLE OPT"

Werner, I mean no disrespect, that issue was solved over a year ago I can' t help but wonder why you are still dwelling upon it. It is against the 'rules' for some Buddhist Monks and Nuns to touch others of the opposite sex. One day three monks came upon a Nun trying to cross a stream without getting her gown wet. Immediately the two older monks made a chair out of their arms and carried her across the creek. When they got to the other side they set her down and each continued on their own way.
The younger monk walked along in silence for quite awhile and finally one of the older monks said: "Gee, you've been quiet and seem upset, is something wrong?" To which the younger monk replied: "Our Master says to not touch those of the opposite sex, yet without hesitation you carried her across the stream and haven't even spoken of it." One of the other monks said, yes, that's the problem, we set her down 5 miles ago, and yet you still carry her in your heart." -
