I'm using Firefox 7.0.1; it's up to date. I work on a MacBook Pro. I believe I'm using Ghostery v2.6.0.1, although I'm not positive. When I go into Tools and to "Manage Ghostery Options," I'm taken to a page that gives me the ability to uncheck the box that says "Show Alert Bubble." When I uncheck that box (as I've done a dozen times), the alert bubble goes away, but never for more than a few hours.
I work with Mark Naples at WIT Strategy; he handles PR for Evidon and Ghostery. I love showing Ghostery to clients and reporters, and would like to keep it, but the alert bubble keeps getting in the way of info I want to see and links I want to click (including the links that would enable me to skip an ad).
I can turn off the Alert Bubble in the top right corner, but it keeps coming back on. I'd like to keep Ghostery, but I hate the alert bubble and will uninstall Ghostery unless I can figure out how to turn off the Alert Bubble and keep it off.

Hi bill, thanks for using Ghostery and reporting this issue.
What other addons do you have running in you're Firefox (you can use about:support page and paste the list here)? Do you switch profiles or is this the same profile that the issue keeps happening on? -

Hi, Felix --
I don't switch profiles -- don't even know how one would do that -- and the only other addons I have running in Firefox are "SEO for Firefox" and "Web Developer," if the latter is an addon.
I wonder if the issue is the page that loads when I click on "Manage Ghostery options." The page that loads has this URL, which looks like it's meant for users of Chrome:
chrome://ghostery/content/options.html
I don't use Chrome, as mentioned; I've never downloaded it, and use Firefox only. Could that be the problem -- a bug in 'Manage options'?- view 2 more comments

I don't see anything that would interfere with Ghostery, so there might be something that's doing it from the outside of Firefox. Lets try this: create a new Firefox profile (instructions here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...) and install the beta (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...) and see if it fares any better after changing the Ghostery Option for Show Alert (remove check from the check-box).

Hi bill, any updates for me?

a quick way to get rid of the purple box is to move your cursor arrow to the box, and click it. it then disappears. of course, this is only temporary, but gets rid of the box if it's in the way.

Yes, Vince, but not really -- because if I click the box before all the trackers have loaded, the box reappears and refreshes, until it has let me know every last tracker, whether I cared or not. It's as if the box says, "Not so fast -- I'm not finished telling you about all this."
Doesn't that happen to you? So if I want to read something in the top right corner, or if I want to click "skip this ad," or whatever, I have to wait until the box has told me every last tracker before I can eliminate it. And only it knows when it's done. Oy.
It's annoying to have to wait, on every single page, until the box is finished telling me what I don't always care to know, before I can get rid of it, you know? -
