How about creating a plugin for Mail clients (Mail.app, Outlook, etc) to block trackers?
This will help prevent spying on if we read / open / forward an email. And discourage spammers thinking that this is a "dead" email account since they cant get confirmation that the email has been opened...

You can't be tracked if you never load remote images.
remote images = tracking
inline images (or attachments) = no tracking
It's that simple. -

Not quite true. Just send out an email campaign with mailchimp or constant contact.
Even without an image I can see who opened the email and when. What links where clicked etc. More power available if you pay for their service...-
Ghostery detects and is capable of blocking MailChimp Tracking and Constant Contact. Both companies use web beacons (i.e. remote images) to discover when a message is opened. Clicking on their generated links is optional and voluntary. It doesn't matter how much money changes hands; the real power rests in the hands of the message recipient (as it should be).

The KB articles refer to how the mail is loaded and displayed. Yes not loading images helps but this is mainly a concern for windows users as bad stuff can be packed into these attachments. Luckily OSX doesn't suffer this problem :-)

Loading images applies to everyone; it's platform-independent. Using Windows is a choice. It may be a really bad choice, but it's still a choice.

People who know how to adjust these settings and are willing to deal with Plain text only email don't need Ghostery. Just like using a text only web browser will keep the bad stuff out....

No, you are not limited to plain text. However, HTML needs to be "sanitized." That this is necessary at all is the sad result of politics triumphing over common sense and technical merit.
This sort of thing happens a lot, and not just in this industry. -
