Make Ghostery not to Log things

I don't want Ghostery to Log what it rejects (I mean extensions.ghostery.blockingLog in about:config), please make possible to disable it. Thanks.

  • Hi noplease, thanks for using Ghostery.

blockingLog is a log of all executed blocks that Ghostery did. Its saved in the preferences for the Block Log view that could be opened through Tools-> Ghostery -> Block Log. Its also cleared out on every restart of the browser. Is there a reason why it is bothering you? If you wish I could provide instructions for you to remove it in your installation.

  • Ghostery writes the blocking log to the prefs.js file (user_pref("extensions.ghostery.blockingLog")). Contrary to the note of Felix Shnir immediately above, it is NOT cleared out on every restart of the browser.

I do NOT want all of this information added to my prefs.js file. It isn't a privacy issue; I view it as garbage (which makes it more difficult to work with this file).

How can I stop this log?

    • Ok, here are the instructions. This will require an editor of some sort.

      1) Open Firefox and go to about:support
      2) Click show profile folder
      3) In the file browser, navigate to extensions/firefox@ghostery.com/componenets and edit the only file there
      4) Remove or comment all prefs.appendBlockingLog lines

That will remove all content from the log.
    • Done. Notepad++ (I commented out the appendBlockingLog lines)

It would be nicer if there was a prefs.js value to disable logging (even if it is "hidden" and not part of the UI).

It would be nicer (i.e. "plays well with others") if this data were written to a db file in Firefox\Profiles\xxxxx\ghostery, rather than to prefs.js.

      Thanks for your help.
