Missing status bar for IE8

I installed Ghostery with IE8. When I navigate to a website the purple pop-up box appears, but when I click on it, it goes away. I also cannot find/see the status box that I understood should be at the bottom right hand corner of my broswer frame. Any suggestions on why it's not working correctly ?
