I’m feeling kinda stupid

New and having trouble with configuring

I just added Ghostery and I like it a lot. Now in MySpace I am unable to post comments or blog, there is no post button for comment and although it says I can post in the blog section, I am unable to get my curser in there to write anything.. I can post fine in Face Book. I understand that blocking cookies may be the reason, from reading other questions here, but how do you know which cookies to block and which to not?

How can I protect myself adequately but still use the social platform?I need sites like that for networking.

If it matters, I am using the latest version of Firefox (can't remember the version, just know it's new)

    Hi Rainbow,

    Thanks for downloading Ghostery!

The easiest thing to do would be to "whitelist" Myspace.com. This will allow you to use that service unblocked, but as you go off and continue to browse, Ghostery will block automatically.
This is a little easier then selectively unblocking on that site because you will need to remember to reactivate the trackers that you disabled when browsing.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Rainbow,

Could you give us some example links where Ghostery's blocking breaks stuff?

  • I’m unsure
    I can try.

When I try to post a "comment" the post button is missing, so although I can write a post I can't actually post it.

When I try to blog, I do have a post button, but the area to write in is blank and I cannot write anything in it...the cursor just doesn't show, nor will any letters, so technically I can't post.

When I try the help feature, the bottom 3/4 of the page is just a grey area so I can't read much in the help menu cuz I don't have access to the whole scroll bar because of this strange grey area.

I tried unblocking the site (not the whitelist) but it didn't seem to change anything. Even if I refreshed it while it was unblocked. I guess it couldve been a site problem, but it was working fine before I added Ghostery....so it is a logical assumption (but not necessarily true) that something is being blocked by Ghostery that is causing the problem.

I am also using WOT Safe Search.- just in case that can affect things.

Is this the kind of info you are asking for?

  • Your best workaround for now is to tell Ghostery to not block on Myspace ("whitelist domain" in Ghostery for Firefox's findings menu), as Pete suggested.

If we could examine the broken pages, we could potentially create a fix for all Ghostery users, one that doesn't involve unblocking the entire site.
