New Findings Panel v2.9.2 hides Options; other suggestions

Ghostery 2.9.2 In Fx 19, Vista x64 -

1) new findings panel that appears automatically (for a certain # of times - clicking tray icon?) - hides options, even if click the round menu icon.

I guess it shows the options menu, but is hidden by the findings panel, until that's closed.

Yes, can close the findings panel, but may be confusing to new users (or new to this version). I'd think that if click the menu icon, it'd close / minimize the findings panel.

2) The toolbar icon (for options, help...) should either have Tool Tip - what you're opening (some don't like, "Let's click this & see what it does");
or text near by - like "More Options," or "Options / Help," etc. The little round "pollen grain" jagged icon doesn't mean much to a lot of users.

3) Don't understand why the menu pops up, sized so it needs scroll bars, but barely any scrolling to be done. Maybe for smaller screen? But isn't a menu sized according to monitor size detected? It should probably be re sizable & remember last size.

  • Hi katie, thanks for using Ghostery.

Your #1 and 2 are good suggestions and we'll work it into the next release. As far as #3, it shouldn't be happening as illustrated by our screenshot: https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/img/up...

We'll look into why this may be occuring and try to fix for the next release as well.

    Katie,

Are you using a theme on your desktop or within firefox?.. I can't get the scroll bars to appear..

  • Hi katiep,

Could you please explain a bit more what you mean in #1?

  • No, using default Fx 19 theme. I've seen other posts mentioning the scroll bars (not about this issue, but still - they existed).

One thing - I have Ghostery icon in tray - not in nav bar. I can switch to see, but don't want it there permanently. Checked that - scroll bars still appear & lower buttons partially hidden.

I'm using Vista - sometimes it does odd things. Most pages / menus work fine - w/ my settings. I have Vista system font size set 110 dpi vs default 96 (think that's ~ 115%). Not huge difference & doesn't affect much else.

I tested Fx - allowed pages to use their own fonts, & set min. font size = None. Made no diff. I don't use Fx default font (use DejaVu Serif 16 w/ min. size = 14, but doesn't appear Ghostery pop up is using Fx fonts, anyway. I'm using 21.5 in. mon. - @ native 1920 x 1080.

Note: don't know if it's just how you made the screenshot - oversized the popup??

On linked pop up screen, if I enlarge web page background in the shot to full screen size (as a normal web page on my monitor), then Ghostery pop up is HUGE. Then it's ~ 7.625 in. LONG vs real pop up 4.5 in. If that's it's normal size on your screen, no wonder it doesn't show scroll bars.

  • Alexei, I did - that's why it's in the screenshot. But, I tried it both ways. Setting Fx min. font size to 14 or "none" (meaning, [for sure] if "allow pages to use own fonts.." is checked, it'll let them use as small as they want. To an extent, setting it to "None," even if pages aren't allowed to use their own fonts / sizes, still allows much smaller font to be used (sometimes) on some web pages.

Either way, tried it both ways on size & allow / don't allow pages to use own fonts & sizes. No diff. But, the font style in the pop up isn't anything set - anywhere - in Fx. I haven't looked at your code, but for sure, Ghostery pop up is using its own font STYLE. Where it gets size - that's the question. I could look in your CSS, but will leave it to you guys.

You didn't say if the pop up on your screen is really as big (in relation to actual web page) as in the linked screen? That's WAY bigger than my actual pop up.

    WHAT I MEAN IN # 1 (above):
When the findings panel is displayed in 2.9.2, especially the 1st few times you click on ghostery icon, after new version's installed (findings panel appears automatically, for a certain # times - I guess) - if you click the blue toolbar icon (shown in screen), the findings panel still hides the toolbar / options buttons (screen).

Once the findings panel no longer pops up automatically - no problem.
But, if you later intentionally open findings panel, then click toolbar icon, you never see the toolbar - until you close findings panel.
