I’m taking a crap

Please add Bazaarvoice to your list of blocked trackers (info included)

I would like to add "BazaarVoice" to the list of ad companies to be tracked. Ironically, I first discovered this company when visiting the site to Opt-out of online behavior trackers: http://www.aboutads.info/choices/

They "said" they set an opt-out preference (one that wasn't caught by Ghostery) but better safe, than sorry right?

This image gives you more information on Bazaarvoice, Inc. including their homepage bazaarvoice.com

  • Note: In case I wasn't clear. This company was not detected by Ghostery originally and showed up in the list of companies customizing ads for my browser (Firefox).

  • Ghostery has known about Bazaarvoice for over two years.

The mechanisms used by Opt-out pages can be quite unusual, and don't necessarily resemble the tracking code integrated into other websites. It is not indicative of a problem for Ghostery not to detect these. Since installation of Opt-out cookies is consensual, you could argue that Ghostery shouldn't care about them at all — but carving out exceptions for such a rarely-occurring case isn't practical.

If you encounter actual examples of websites that use Bazaarvoice, but it isn't being detected there, let us know, and someone will investigate further.

You probably know this, but not all Opt-out cookies turn out to be consensual. Is it possible to review a list of just such cookies in use by a certain browser? Might be a cool feature.

D the OP (heh), I replied here to tell you about one example of an Opt-out cookie that turns itself back on after a week after you opt out (see below). I found this out by accident months after opting out, so if you are concerned about that Opt-out cookie, check it after a while to see if it stays opted out!

Example: The QuickDrag FF add-on has had undocumented, hidden malware since at least 2013, possibly 2011! See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire... for a well researched explanation in the QD reviews.

You can only "opt-out" if you know the Enable Marketing option was quietly added & selected by default, and even if you deselect it it reverts back to selected in one week!!!
