Please add Gravatar to the list of things I can block
I don't know for certain that Gravatar is necessarily tracking me per se, but they certainly could be.
The
tags that reference their site include a hash of users' e-mail addresses, and the HTTP_REFERER header would easily tell them where I've been.

From the discussion in the Get Satisfaction community,
some people seem to be very passionate about Gravatar, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of concern about potential misuse.
It wasn't deemed interesting the last time we looked at it (about a year and a half ago), but we can certainly revisit this. I don't know how prevalent it is today beyond sites under Automattic's purview (which we can excuse as first-party usage), and third party elements you can already block (e.g. Disqus).
There's a way to add a private tracker definition to Ghostery for Firefox if you want to see what the impact would be.

You should add gravatar.com icons to your widgets category for blocking..

Nothing too unexpected there.
The way I see it, this is blocking social networking with privacy implications, exactly as advertised for the purpose of this block list, and people who want to add an exception for ghostery can do so.
I've been pondering if there's any good ways to help avoid confusion like the poster shows. Is it possible for gravatar icons to be covered by the option to 'Also replace "social" buttons'? It's a good thing if there's still something there on the page for users to click if they want to visit the user's page or whatever, and a little ghostery icon appearing will make it clearer what is going on. -

CHAMP

I expected there must be a way to add custom rules to Ghostery, but my search-fu has failed me. Can you (or anybody) point me at a reference?
Thank you.
You can search for
bugs AND dbto find all related discussion (but be aware that there have been some subtle changes over the years).||gravatar.com^$domain=~gravatar.com,~collapse
However, the firefox extension I use on android (Adblock Edge) is less flexible, and doesn't allow me to add my own rules.
